Sealing case and cylinders?

Hey i was wondering what you guys reccomend to seal the two case halfs? Any feedback on a specific product? What to stay away from? Thanks a lot guys

Permatex Aviation will work.

Never ever use any silicone form-a-gasket.

I use permatex on just about thing that has the possibility of leaking oil. Make sure to get a decent sized tub, it lasts quite a while. I had to tear my motor totally apart after I just got it together and I haven't even gone through a 1/5 of the bottle.

I use to use Permatex Aviation, but on the last few engines went with Curil-T and will be using it from now on.

I just found it easier to work and less messy...but that is just my preference. I also liked the tube over the brush factor.

Specialty sealers such as Dirko and Yamabond are excellent also.Yamabond is made exclusively for applying to gasketless machined aluminum surfaces.Messy and expensive, but very effective.

Think of it this way. If you have 8 case sealers that all work at keeping the case halves dry, but one of them can be cleaned off easily with a paper towel the next time you have to get in there fix something, which do you think you should choose?

Yamabond definitely keep the engine from leaking oil out of the ordinary spots. (oil cooler seals, sump plate, valve covers) it takes a while to run out of the $8 tube. you just need to make sure you form a perfect furface of the goo, free of debris or air bubbles. It is kind of a pain to get off though when doing maintenance.

Loctite 515 or 518, Anaerobic Sealer, I use it on everything I do on Airplanes Piston Aircooled engines and used it on my 1600cc and guess what?
Nice and dry, no leaks, its good for almost anything that needs to be sealed.

I'm not the spokesperson or anything, but we used this stuff when building jet engines (for the Navy), and I've used it on every engine I build. It's great becuase if you have to tear something back down, it's a snap to wipe off, and it seals very well.

I got my Curil-T through the following link. It is great stuff for your 'must seal' areas. It is not cheap so I only use it for the important areas.

I use hylomar aero grade for everything. no drips no leaks no runs.
and removal is the easiest with the aerosol remover.
