Here are some photos of my Binz 169 found in LA by Lynden Kneeland
back in the late 70s. It was then traded to Gabriel Ledesma (same guy that had the logo'd Binz) for a 65 Notchback in 1985.
Then it was sold to Mike Bailey of Tucson, AZ in 1999 and then to me in 2005.
The rear seat came from the custom Binz in VW Trends I was told.
It still has the original engine and trans.

Joe,
This is how I remember your Truck. Too bad the inside pic does not show people that the building was built around the truck. They must have had to take down one of the walls to get it out. _________________ Home of the one true split Bus Motorhome |

I remember it like this...
That was 4 - 5 years ago. I wish I would have bought it then instead of passing on it. I believe it's in good hands now though. |

Well it looks like the cat is out of the bag officially. With restojohnny posting pics I guess it is ok to talk about it now. Here is what the VW Trends Binz looks like now. I hope it will be at OCTO in a couple of weeks.?.
Props Johnny. The truck looks great. Is that a chrome steering wheel? _________________ Home of the one true split Bus Motorhome |

I'd like to see the Vin. He states it's an early '57.
That would make it the earliest one known correct? |

Wait...135s? Wtf? Is this a 90s tribute Binz? So is restojohnny the owner then? Surely he has some cooler wheels than those fake Fuchs?
Whatev..at least it's back on the road and close-ish to stock. _________________ (O\U|U/O) Top Vw (o\UU/o) |

I agree with the "To each his own" comments. This is all a topical custom & could easily be an all stock restored Bus someday. Johnny built this for the current owner as a fun driver. That means someone is going to drive & enjoy it & we will be seing it at shows again.
Not my style but I applaud the owner & the builder. I hope he has lots of fun cruising So Cal.
Remember JJ found an 80's custom 54 23 window a few years back with suicide front doors. It could have gotten that treatment.
Also I think I am just glad to not see another Dove Blue Binz. _________________ Home of the one true split Bus Motorhome

I have a feeling this will be in HotVws and every other Vw magazine sometime in the next year, year and a half.. It just looks like a "feature car." _________________ (O\U|U/O) Top Vw (o\UU/o) |

Thanks Corey for the props. And YES it's an early 57 and I it won't be at the OCTO show. The steering wheel is off a boat just to steer the damn thing around the shop until he decides what steering wheel he want's. I like the wheel though and best of all I like about the binz is that it has alway's stood out over the year's as being the "ONLY" different binz around so when my uncle found it he decided to do it his way with my help to keep it different from ALL THE OTHER DOVE BLUE BINZ's out there. This bus has alway's been in the magazines over the year's in the late 70's and early 80's as a one off binz so why change it to look everyone else's binz out there. No need to call me out on if it's the earliest out there as I've been down that road before with my other car's. The binz is exactly how it should be and that's the way my uncle like's it See ya'all at the OCTO meet _________________ $$$ HUSTL'N AIN'T EAZEE $$$

If you are referring to me, I was not "calling you out"

All I said was I would like to know the VIN. and the Binz number for that matter. If it really is #124 and an early '57 that proves that Binz would take in a "used" Single Cab for the conversion.
I was just trying to gain more Binz history. |
