It's kind of strange that all the hours and months spent rebuilding that car might be judged by the paint on the wheels. I like them. _________________ 71 Squareback FI "TC"

Yeah.
Bob is going to put on another coat of clear on the body, so it shines as nice as the wheels!
I know "Wolfie" is happy for all of the attention. As soon as Bob is happy with the overall appearance, inside and out, "Wolfie" will be a 3 season driver.
As long as the Two of them are Happy "toolin' round town," nothing else matters! _________________ Sue

Then there's the hard question of hubcaps and beauty rings: if you use both, there's not much rim showing.
Good for me as I don't have pretty rims (and I managed to buy caps and rings last summer) but it would be a shame to cover something as beautiful as these are. _________________ Kharon -- '62 typ1, '63 typ14, '61 typ21, '65 typ34, '74 412, '75 typ26

Bob has four nice looking hubcaps, plus the four original hub caps.
He also has 3 matching beauty rings, and then two other matching beauty rings. The three do not match the two.
Suppose we could put two matching on one side and then two of the other matching on the other side.
But Bob agrees that using the beauty rings hides too much of the white. _________________ Sue

While Bob was taking a little break from wet sanding, he went ahead and mounted the spare tire onto it's rim.
Here's a peek:
Bobs says he's about three quarters of the way done with wet sanding the body. _________________ Sue

Well, IF you start at the beginning of this thread, you'll see mine looks worse than yours did. It's taken almost 2 years to get this far with it. Of course when you do jobs for others (to help pay for it), that puts the project on hold, until a space re-opens, so I can get back on it. Then we have real winters here, where we're lucky to get up to the teens for highs, and inches (or feet) of snowfall on top of the cold temps. That kind of puts things on hold, as it's hard to justify heating the shop for a couple of hours. But I've been kind of just pecking away at it, doing a couple of hours a day, so some stuff gets done (kind of like you're doing). It's almost ready for the road, and I've still got a couple of minor issues to deal with, that I've found since work stopped last winter. Not to mention I still need a couple of things I've yet to buy.
According to Scott and several others, I've been going too fast on this project, so maybe it's good that I'm slowing down. At least I have the seat covers and carpeting here, as that's a big expense, and takes a while to get made. That was all I was lacking on the interior side of things. I've now got the rims sandblasted, epoxy primed, painted and clear coated, along with having the tires sitting here, so they're ready to get mounted sometime this week, the body is mostly wet sanded for another coat of clear, then the interior can go in it. Then it'll be the little minor things that I want to finish off, before it's ready to go down the road. I mean it's real close right now, but the finishing touches will be worth the wait (to me), since I'm planning on going to Colorado in late June with it, and the car had been sitting for 25+ years before Russ got it (back in 2004). So I don't think I'm doing too bad. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

To fast? You're in a very small group of T34 owners, I mean really small. Those that actualy are restoring their T34 . The majority think their cars are fine wine or something, leaving them languish in their garages rotting away.
Scott dosent have a car, just pictures of a bottle of wine Actualy Scott has more of a 12 year old scotch. Atleast the bottles open and a few drinks were made.

I think I found my problem then, I'm a beer guy. That must be why it only took me 1/10th of the time Doug spent. But yours does look very good Doug.
Like I said at the beginning of this thread, I want to drive this car. And I had planned to attack this project much like I did my 71 Notch. We all know I knocked that out pretty quick too.
Brian, pics will come as work progresses. Right now, there's not much to see, hence no pics. Thanks for yor interest though. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

Hi All,
Bob did get the tires mounted yesterday:
but they couln't balance them!
Grrr...
Fast Forward to today... (Scooby Doo ending -from Wayne's World- insert your own sound effects)....
After a chilly start, it turned out to be a beautiful day! . Even still, it turned out to be a Very Aggravating morning for Bob!
He went to, count 'em, Five different places, And called another place (located 20 miles away) trying to get those tires balanced and could Not find anybody to do them!
He talked to a machinist buddy, to see about blasting a bigger hole in a T-1 front brake drum (sacrificial drum). We will wait to find out IF he can do it.
If I'm understanding correctly, the center opening of the rim is too large for the balancing machine, and no one has an adapter plate (anymore) to put on the machine to compensate for the difference.
So a total of Seven places, and No Joy!
Gggrrrrrrr!
(That is the sound of Bob and "Wolfie's displeasure!)
Bob says, if he'd gone with the Wide Five, Five Spoke, like he Really wanted, this wouldn't have been an issue.
P.S. Tomorrow is Bob's Birthday, see if you fellas' can improve his mood... _________________ Sue
