What do y'all think...

I bought a BA6 heater to install in the Westerner. At the time, I didn't realize how much cutting I'd have to do.

At the least, I'd have to cut a hole under the back seat, and cut the main heat tube out. I didn't realize it was metal and welded in to the body.

What do you think? Would you do it?

Normally I would not be an advocate of cutting huge ugly holes in a 30+ year old vehicle BUT in this case I say go for it. And I say that because I had a BA6 in my '79 Westy (while living in Ontario), and it was a wonderful addition for the winter months.

Instant heat and did not use too much gas....

Cool

I would agree with both parts of your statement... I do drive this bus fairly often and it would certainly be nice to have the extra heat.

At least none of the cuts are in places that are really visible.

UK means USA, Reserve. And the spit is just a handy way to clean off the number so we can see it. I am sure no disrespect was meant. Wink

That body looks almost in mint condition and Rob R had joined us a while back and haven't heard from him in a while.

Rob if you are still with us, give us the scoop?

Those heat ex-changers just don't last and are expensive so do what you need to do. You will only be shunned if you change the exterior color.

Cuz

So I went back to Interstate today to pick up the WW (VIN # ending in 417) and it took its place next to the other one I bought two weeks ago. Turns out it was in pretty good shape as there was minimal rust in only one spot/location in the cargo floor just behind the driver seat. So now they both take their place in the restoration line.

I so agree the dog legs looks good as well as the right rear corner where the battery is located.

There was another WW seems like a year ago that had the roof caved in by a tree and was for sale on the West Coast. I will look back and try and contact the owner to see what happened to it. As i recall it was in fairly good condition except for the roof.

We are now in a tie you have two on the West Coast and i have two on the East Coast. I challenge others to join us, lets get these Buses Rock-in and Roll-in again.

May The Wild Westerners Live Forever !

If i may borrow this quote.

"I Had A Dream"........ That we have at least one Wild Westerner running and driving in every state.....This is extremely possible becos .....A Wild Westerner is already in Hawaii and we have located enough to make this happen, provided we get off our asses and just do it.

I think y'all have convinced me!

I think the only part I need is the flapper box (for lack of a better term) that is directly behind the heater. It mounts between the heater and the Y from the heat exchangers, just in front of the rear axle. It is what the recirculation fan boot attaches to.

Anyone have this part available? Could VWRESTOMODMAN check next time you're at the salvage yard? This heater was only installed by the factory in '74 and up.

Drove the Westerner quite a bit this weekend.

I think that it had it's picture taken at almost every single stop! If it didn't get it's picture taken, then someone at the store or whatever talked to me about it.

I first stopped at a liquor store and as soon as I hopped out, a high school girl ran over and asked if she could take a picture with it. Her dad told me she made him follow me to get the pic.

On the way out, I saw some other college age girls taking pics with it.

I told one of my boys that if any hot girls near my age asked to take a pic, I would certainly offer them a ride! Wink

Unfortunately none yet.

Stopped to get some pizza after that, and folks in the shop were asking about it.

Yesterday at Home Depot I saw folks taking pics of the bus, and this morning at Menards I saw at least two people taking pics of it.

I think I should get one of those automated wild game cameras and mount it on the dash, so I could take pics of everyone taking pics of my bus!

I have the same feeling when I park the westy at the airport parking lots. Soooo easy to find.

At our dealership in southern Arizona, our inventory consists of grey, silver, white, dark blue and black. Extremely rare that a bright color comes off the boat for us down here.

Sad

I was there years ago. I think it is time for another trip. For me in Los ALamos, Alamagordo is a full day there and back. I think now with my son in Las Cruces, I will have opportunities to drop by on one of the Las Cruces runs.
