Nice to see a Update again!
Do you habe a idea how to prevent the patina rust? And how to prevent the underside from rust?

We used phosphoric acid to prep the bare metal, then silver master coated everything prior to any painting underneath. We used the phosphoric acid to prep everything else. We plan to use self etching primer over that before painting. I’m hoping that will do the trick. |

I've been pecking away with the small parts blasting and painting as I go. I also started cleaning the exterior. I now have the inside ready for primer, and color where color should be. The next post should be a good one:

I like what you did with that door, it came out very nice with the original paint preserved and just the right amount of patina. Very curious to the outcome of the paintjob for the interior. |

My goal is to keep as much original paint as possible. The door still needs some work but is getting there. The plan for the interior is to be clean. I think it’s going to be pretty nice.
Thanks ddutch! |

The inside is painted! I used self etching primer over the Mastercoat and then covered that with the Mango. My paint gun gave up the ghost after the primer so I had to go to Harbor Freight and bought the $25 special. I’m not a painter and it’s obvious if you look closely. There are a bunch of runs that need to be wet sanded out. But it’s green now!

The best thing to happen to this bus was finding you.
Your work is inspirational.
I look forward to seeing the first driving pic/ video _________________

My friend Matt, the owner of this bus bought it from a junkyard after it sat there for years being picked apart. I am so glad he rescued it and decided to put it back on the road.
Thanks von hansel! |

The color looks awesome. I can't wait to roll it out into the sunlight. Seeing the inside painted is extremely motivational!
Thanks Christian!

A lot has happened since this thread was last updated. I found out that my friend Matt that rescued this bus from the junkyard, as well as many other buses over the years from scrapyards, junkyards, fields, and sometimes driveways was not doing well. Unfortunately he passed away in January. He was a good friend and a bus guy through and through. He will be missed.
When we talked about the bus last summer around the time I was finishing the majority of the metal work he had asked me to finish the bus, and I agreed to it. We talked about how he wanted it to be, and that's the direction we were going in. After he passed I found out that he had left the bus to me, so I plan to finish the bus the way he wanted it (with the exception of the safaris). It has been slow going since the beginning of the year, but my son and I have been picking away at it, and are getting near the end of the project. I did not take as many pictures as I usually do, but it is moving forward. I know Matt is keeping an eye on us and I hope he approves. The pictures are out of order a little bit, but you will get the idea.
Whenever I updated the thread Matt would text me and say he saw his bus on Mango TV, so here is the Mango TV update:
When I took the Sportwagen cutout off of the bus and cleaned off the primer, I saw this dealer badge. It is from Key West, FL. The port of entry on the M Code plate is Miami so I am guessing this is where it was sold new.

I'd say you need to go ahead and give this bus a name - Matt. Sorry for the loss of your friend

Curious how difficult it was to re-bend the edge of the decklid after replacing the inner structure? _________________ WANTED:

Sorry to hear about your friend. Losing people close to us always sucks.
