Were there two sizes for rearview mirror mounts? My bus's threaded holes are wider apart than the holes in the mirror. I haven't found any on classifieds or repros w/wider holes so trying to figure out if a previous owner did a modification at some point or if there's a different mirror the early 57 takes.

Panels didn't come with mirrors so it was probably some random mirror a previous owner installed.

Ok so looks like I'm drilling or maybe I'll copy a mount that goes under fresh air vent panel that I recently saw on an so34 which apparently also lacked a rearview mirror. thanks.

Thanks for the compliment. I enjoyed watching the progress as you uncovered the dove blue on yours...looks really good.

I've got about 5 hours on the panel so far but the rear shift couple just went on me Brick wall ...luckily it happend at Starbucks across the street from my house....limped back home in first gear and will deal with it tomorrow. All I want to do is drive. Feel like I'm 16 again, until I fill the tank that is!

It's been suggested that I coat the bus's bottom with POR15. Is that something I should do? Something to avoid? I welcome everyone's perspectives.

Also, I got my shifting issues squared away. Determined the rear coupler wasn't bad, the screws came loose. Learned from samba threads that you have to wire the screw heads to prevent them from coming loose. I figured the holes were there for something and now I know what. Smile

Two nights work:

Repaced all missing/loose hubcap clips

Redid front wire harness. Discovered the ground screw was touching running light bulb holder and causing short which also burned up my running light wire so had to replace.

Installed new decklid brakelight w/new reproduction lens and housing from samba classifieds. way way way better than the one I originally bought which turned out to be a painted clear lense that shined a pinkish-clear hue and the housing turned out to be a few running light bulb holders soldered together. Now I understand the sarcastic comments I received when I posted pics of my "original" decklid. Live and learn.

Marked/drilled my door panels and then found out a PO must have widened the screw holes in the doors so I was not able to install. Also I cracked (beyond repair) the driver's side headliner so hopefully I can get a replacement from Clara. Now I need to figure out a way to attach using bigger screws...hopefully the nice polished bezels will still fit.

I put the bulkhead divder in so it's a lot quieter in the cabin now. Not sure I'll be able to put my son in the back for any long trips...It is loud :2gunfire:

Having a blast driving it around Miami!

Forgot to mention how well the bulkhead divider quiets the cabin. You can talk to your passenger without screaming.

Installed wiper motor and linkages today and surprisingly the motor worked Dancing . Not so surprisingly, the 6v wipers were of no help at all when we got a summer T-storm on my drive home.

Now switching to work on the bay for a while. Taking a road trip to Canada with a stop at the Finger Lakes for Grassroots Music Fest.

When is the subhatch getting some love? Oh BTW, put the seat down before your Wife yells at you.

Probably start on the subhatch in the fall. We are taking the bay on a 2 (or maybe 3) week trip up north late July so after I get back from that.

I'll be sure to hide the toilet with my OG privy tent that came with the subhatch prior to my next pic, ha!

The previous owner was nice enough to surprise me with these. He had them tucked away for 33 years:

PostPosted: Sat Jun 09, 2012 8:38 pm    Post subject: Fuel Reserve question Reply with quote

Do any of you with their fuel reserve lever and cable in place have any trouble if you go onto reserve then switch back?

This morning I hooked up my fuel reserve lever/cable and got everything working but it could see/feel it putting alot of stress on the fuel sender. I realize that I'll rarely operate the mechanism but I'd hate to break the sender out on the road some day. I had a motorcyle with no fuel gage and I recall going onto reserve twice in a 5 year period so it's not a huge deal but was curious to hear other people's thoughts.

Finally got the interior door panels on. Thank you Clara, they look amazing!
Somewhere along the line someone enlarged the screw holes d'oh! but I was able to find a wider screw with a flat head that sat flush with the little bezel. Store only had philips head but I like the way they look. Still have some work to do w/fresh air vent and under dash and then I'll install the other panels. Clara does really nice work.

Also, started having a problem with the front brakes not releasing. Ronnie (Splitpile) informed me that the 67 master cylinder comes with a residual valve that can cause this problem. I removed the valve and Miguel (aircooledhead.com) bled the brakes and viola, problem solved.

Met my wife and son at the neighborhood park later in the evening.

Replaced the fresh air vent flap seal today. Pretty much down to some basic touch up jobs at this point.
