Does anyone know if these have wheels hop issues?
I am assuming since they are a trailing arm set-up, they will not have any unless you are running tons of hp to deflect the arms. |

This sounds like the transaxle I just inherited from Rick in Soquel. Except the one I have was "converted" to be used in a barn door as a small nut transaxle. |

Soooo, anyone have addition info on these? I feel the world could benefit from having more of these setups around. _________________ Wash your hands

Apart from this being an old thread: why would you want a hybrid between IRS and reduction boxes?
(personally I would either keep stock set-up, or go full out on IRS conversion, instead of sourcing/fabbing a hybrid version) _________________ drive it like you just robbed the bank

In order to get the most lower end power, I am considering switching to mid engine with 003. I see others have modified the RGB but I don't see detail on the actual machining process. No use reinventing the modification if it has already been done with success |

It is the best of both worlds! You can only raise an IRS so far before geometry becomes an issue. RGB's raise an additional 3 1/2" while keeping stock suspension geometry. RGB's also multiply torque, making them ideal for pulling heavy loads or going off road. IRS keeps the tires flat on the ground, and allows moderate lifting without affecting suspension geometry as much as a swing axle does. _________________ EMPI Power Rules! |

Would this work with a subaru tranny and motor ? With reduction boxes wouldn't it make the tires rotate the right way so you would't need to replace ring and pinion to the reverse style? |

I'm interested in this because in the "flipped Audi transmission" being installed into a lot of vanagons with tdi engine conversions.
I have done this in my Splitty.
With the Audi trans. output flanges not being central on the side of the transmission housing, when you flip it upside down, the flanges are very high.
High flanges of course mean high angle of cv.
My application is in my Splitty, narrower body than the vanagon,
greater angles again, further compounding the problem.
The conversation in this thread has grabbed my attention for that reason.
Apologies if I have veered off topic, but it is a valid thought that is related to this discussion. |

Yea that's also what we have is a 64 splitty would like to buy a subaru and install the motor and tranny in the splitty and use the reduction boxes so it would be rotating tires correct . The Bus tranny just maxes out the rpms on the motor at about 55mph was wondering with a 5 speed suburu tranny and the reduction gear boxes if it would do better at higher speeds like 60-65 mph ????? |
