Hi quick wiring question,
In the picture the one black wire is not connected... I am assuming I just put it on the empty clip.... just wanted to make sure. I know the green is for the wipers, but horn lights etc all work and the wiring diagram was not too clear, maybe a gauge light??
Thanks!! |

Danger, once you let the smoke out it won't go back in.
How about letting us know what year your car is?, or looking the appropriate diagram yourself.
Bet your brake lights don't work _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.

On other cars there are empty spots to get power from because the fuse box is made for many vehicles. There could be a connector missing to attach one wire to another , etcetera.
You're better off looking at fuse locations and see what is supposed to get power from that spot. _________________ My beetle is not competing with your beetle. I have the yellow beetle in my town. There is a red one, a green one ......

Thanks,
That is what I thought but the second from the right only has one clip and the last one has two. One for wiper motor and one for the brake lights.... they look to be both switched on with the ignition so I think I will go green second from right and black last... fuses show horn/wiper on the last two blocks...maybe it does not matter if they bothe get power... brake lights work off either one, wiper motor looks shot so that will be next project. And yeah thanks have to replace some clips... |

Good catch on the white ( headlight ) wire . Also looking down to the right is the black & black with yellow stripe unhooked from the first connector . |

The green wire that runs to the wiper switch is the single largest load of all the wires powered from the ignition switched circuit. So if you have to choose just one devices to be powered by its own fuse it should be the wipers. Everything else can be powered from a single 8A fuse. The load of the turn signals + brake lights + horn are still below the limit for an 8A fuse... and the likely hood of all three being ON at the same time is small.
You should also consider which device is most important to driving. You don't want the wipers compromised in a storm because they were connected to the same fuse as the horn and brakes and one of them blew the fuse. Taking out your wipers AND brake lights in a storm. Separating them with different fuses is best. _________________ AshMan40
