Here we are , sold our "61 bug" to buy a volkswagen type 34.
We wanted a another car, a BMW 2002 or a chevy corvair or a Volvo P1800 and one day on the French Karmann Forum we found an ad for a 34...

The car was located at 35 kms of our house , after discussion with MissKittycat and with my best friend Mister VTG ( he ride a 56 LL) , we bring back the car in our garage ....

Not a show car but mostly complete , its an original french type 34 , actually equipped with a 1600 in place off the 1500 and a 8/31 CSP Gearbox , full CSP Discs Kit....

Here's some pics ...
This topic is not really a contruction or restoration topic , but i will show you the evolution of this 34' ....

When we've got it , the interior was really crappy , it's mostly finisch but the road was calling us , so he gonna go a second time this winter to the upholestery shop to finisch the job ....
Good decision because i've change some details on my first idea.... Wink

Maybe my englisch is not really correct , we are French and we try to not use the translator ... I assume the choice , don't hesitate to correct me ... Wink

The project is simple, in France back in the sixties the quartermiles doesnt exist , but we get other race discipline ...
Like automotive rallyes (Monte Carlo is the most popular..), we have also "les 24 heures du Mans" and "course de cotes" ( in englisch we colud translate as "Hillclimbing") ...
The last one was a popular discipline and all the week ends a lot off different cars was performing , you could found 912, 356 , beetles, BMW 2002, Ford, opel ; and a large panel off the European automotive production ....

Names like Gordini or Abarth was haunting the tracks ....
That's our inspiration for the evolution of our car ...

Like a marvellous" cookingproject"....
A little bit off european 60' and 70' race scene .... some vintage stuff.... a pinch of "The Rascals Cats" feeling.... shake it well , cook it in a oven at 180°, take it off sit in it and drive it .... oh dont forget , smile you're Happy.... Wink

Congrats on the purchase. I like your thinking about making mods with vintage road rallying in mind. Looking forward to following your progress.

So the first time we've seen the car , the interior was really crappy and dirty , we get it off, we cleaned it and get it painted ....

The carpets was done with "Home materials" , and the seats was so far off OG stuff ......
Its not a restoration just a clean work for the new upholestery...

We build those" louvers Windows" from scratch, inspirated by the race cars from the sixties and the fifties ...
The goal has been reached, the car is fulled with fresh air when you drive and there is no noise from the Wind through the louvers....

Avaibale on request

The engine has got his 32PDSIT original carbs rebuild , a new generator rebuild with a NOS armature and we gonna be able to get the heating in the car this winter ...

We' ve done a serious Road test during our spring tour, 2000 kms on 4 days just to see our friends...

More updates soon ...
We build the exhaust, and the engine clean continues beetween huge roadTrips...

Cheers
