|
|
I have a what was told to me a pretty old aluminum fan shroud that I'm trying to put a price on cause I don't need it, or at least don't plan to use it. It's different because I've never seen a aluminum shroud that was cast aluminum, which this one is. I've seen sheet aluminum shrouds and this one is in the I believe it's called "ram air" shape, where the left side is lower than the right, not allowing you to run a stock cooler. Like I said I really have no use for it I'm just trying to find out who might have manufactured it and a round about value cause money is tight and I'm cleanin out the old parts bins and junk piles. |

I've seen those, basically the same as the chrome steel versions many vendors sell. No vanes inside them and probably do not cool as well as the stock type shrouds. Used to run one years ago (thought they were cool) but went back to the stock shroud. I would say yours being made of aluminum would be worth more than the chrome steel type......to the right buyer who wants an aluminum shroud. I will say I had no problem with mine when I used one as far as running too hot. I have seen a few for sale in the Samba classifieds, don't remember the prices, but were not 'gold mines' if you know what I mean.

Is it like this? I've run one on my 1641cc engine for years with no problems even in very hot climates. My 2110cc engine, though, has a doghouse shroud.

No, it is one of the worst.... if not the worst piece of Volkswagen aftermarket junk ever produced in the market.
You could spread it apart and use it for a hat if you were really drunk. |

I wouldn't say they don't work AT ALL. They do work, maybe just not as well as the stock shroud.
Mine was in a light weight Baja Bug with an open engine area. I would not use one in a Bus or some heavy vehicle where you need maximum cooling.
The one nice thing about them is the size. Nice and small so there is plenty of room around it to work on the engine. _________________ 1957 Vintage Baja Bug.

I found one of those in a bunch of parts I got with a project car. It was a completely empty shell. No air control vanes at all.
Junk.
I threw it in the trash.

I figured it was not the most popular due to the lack of engineering put into it. Well I guess it'll look good on my garage wall too, just need to polish it first. And yes it is just like thefladge's shroud. |
