Wow, thanks Don!
Does the cap come straight off or does it need to turn? I tried prying lightly with a screw-driver, but I didn't want to break the cap.

Putting them back together is another thing. _________________ Society is like stew. If you don't keep it stirred up, you end up with a lot of scum on the top!--Edward Abbey

I am sniping an internal pipe wrench right now.
Seems everyone that has them for sale wants to sell a full set, and they want big bucks.
Sears gets like $23 for a single 1", and then another $9 shipping. My local Sears store does not sell them. _________________ Society is like stew. If you don't keep it stirred up, you end up with a lot of scum on the top!--Edward Abbey

I've seen them in the plumbing section at a local Loews, didn't check the price. Probably available at Ace or Home depot as well.

Crap, I didn't realize they were that much.
I bought one from another VW guy at a swap meet for $1. |
I will give you $5 and pay the shipping.
That is a better return than you get at a bank.

Same type of snap ring pliers that you take the snap ring off the crankshaft.
