Well, while in the process of selling squareback, I was keeping an eye out for a new project and I've found it. A new to me 1967 VW Type3 Fastback.
With the square, the body and engine were in solid shape and most of what I did would (and should) be considered predominantly cosmetic. For this project, I was looking for a little bit more of a challenge. And I think I've found it.
If you aren't familiar with the squareback, here is the thread: http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=278286
Anyway, about this project... it has had a very... colorful past.
These were taken by 2 owners ago prior to Aug of 2008 (jesus skarky):
Fast forward to this past Saturday when I took my turn to make this car my own. Based on the pictures above, I give Chris (the PO) a lot of credit for starting the cleanup and for sorting out a bunch of issues.
Welp, this is what she looked like when I picked her up:

She cleaned up nicely. _________________ "What we obtain too cheap, we esteem too lightly: 'tis dearness only that gives everything its value. Heaven knows how to put a proper price upon its goods; and it would be strange indeed if so celestial an article as FREEDOM should not be highly rated."

Yes, it cleaned up nicely, but it does have some more "DE-Sharking" to go. Does it still have the dune buggy fuel tank in it? _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

That it does Bob.
I'm still in the compiling phase of what will be a rather large order from ISP West. _________________ Type 3 Fasty |

I don't know that I'd consider it an *upgrade* There's a reason the Germans exported them...
It does look like quite the project-mostly getting it back to stock and 'desharking' it. There's a large difference already-and it looks much better!
Good luck with your project. |

Thanks guys. Spent a bunch of time cleaning up the paint. I'm happy with the results with as little work as has been done on it.
Another video that shows the results: http://youtu.be/g0G-5-hXtLc _________________ Type 3 Fasty |

Ok, I feel a little better.
I'll post pics when I'm done working on it for the day.

When you get to the gauges: I have quite a few parts for them if you decide to pull them apart and fix them. It's not terribly complicated. |

sharkskinman.... i know how you feel bro. and like i said before youve come a long way in this forum. i personally feel that was your "learning car" . unfortunately a bunch of us have those becuase we were too dirt poor and knew too dirt little to do anything for our cars.... dont feel bad bro.... they are being a little harsh tho.
anyways , its neat to see a car go from rat ride to potentially a great car , good luck raf!!!! _________________ Schnell, SCHNELL!

I'm trying to track down a stock replacement. I've messaged a few people on here already including the guy that has one listed in the classifieds. _________________ Type 3 Fasty |
