Hello,
I have a 234 VW Kombi built in April 1958.
I am looking to buy the following parts but I'm not sure for their codes/serial numbers. A lot of different info found on internet. That's why I'm asking you guys to help. Thanks in advance!
- complete taillights;
- complete front lights;
- 3rd bench/ 3rd row of seats.
Thank you!

The taillights should be screw-terminal buckets in the rear.
Information on the Lenses can be found in this thread:
https://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=200834
If you want the exact correct lenses, they should say K3235 on them.

This is a European Bus, correct?
I don't know myself

The rear seat frame is the same from 1958-1963 but 1964-66 will fit and look correct too and it's very difficult to see any difference.
The original upholstery color for all the seats would be Black
Middle and rear for another '58 Kombi

| Being a semaphore bus 1958 shouldn't it still have a brake light engine lid and the euro flat single filament tail lights? Not the half dollars like those posted above. |

Ooops, that is a good point.
Euro Buses had center brake lights through April, 1958.
I'm not sure exaqctly when it changed though.
matei - What's your VIN #?
Example of a '57 Truck:

Couldn't it also be silver dollar tail lights with a flat deck lid and semaphores with the tail lights working as marker lights and brake light and the semaphores for the turn signal? I thought the after the early seamphore tail light the later 58 through end of semaphores on buses were set up like that. _________________ Oil Capital Air Cooled

I believe the change was near the end of April but I am not sure.
Anyone?
Does your Kombi have a center brake light decklid?
If Yes, you would have the European single filament taillights and a center brake light decklid like the truck above.
These taillights

You can also look at the holes for your taillights, if they are not hacked up.
A plain hole would be the European flat taillights.
The later "dollar" taillights have either screw holes or slots for the top and bottom chrome trim screws to pass through the metal corners.
Examples:
Replacement holes with screw holes, used on the Buses with the "dollar" taillights first:
Later Buses with dollar taillights had slots:

So this model could be the correct one giving the production date (11.04.1958)? Thanks! |

| Sounds like the larger dollar taillights. You should be able to tell by the wiring as well. If early lights, you will have only one wire to each taillight and 2 to the decklid, one for brake light and one for licence light. |

Hello! I have no wiring system. It was removed completely by the former owner. My car is made on 11 of April 1958 and I cannot yet tell what are the correct taillights for it. |

If its the 58 bus in your gallery pics? It looks as though the engine lid has been changed, blinkers added up front and rear lights hacked. You can see were your semaphore slots have been covered. According to the 63 VW parts manual the stop light and the taillight changed at chassis number 351735 They were replaced with the combination tail/stop light. Originally your indicator switch on the steering column would have only had 3 wires for semaphores.
Looking at the pics you need the Euro style taillight, that attaches from inside the engine bay (see Everetts post above^^^) A Center brake light and correct Decklid, Semaphore indicators and correct switch.
You should be able to find all those parts pretty easily in Europe. |
