My garage door would graze or rip off my skylight if I try to get it in to work on it, or for over winter. It would fit if I deflate my BFGs a lot. I would rather not. Are there some of those mini-tire spares with the right bolt pattern I could get from junk yards? What puny car spares would work? -- to be clear, I HATE those damn small spares, but in this case, they make some sense!

What size BFG's? Your best bet would probably be to find some worn on stock size tires on factory steel wheels. I've given away sets over the years. They are pretty easy to come by.

What about a used set of stock 14" wheels and tires?

Not sure if this will work for you but check your garage door, my opener had an adjustment that I could get it to open wider allowing my westy to squeeze in.
Putting lowered shocks made it even easier. Laughing

^^^^ someone beat me to it.(edit)

What type of garage door do you have, roll up, or solid sprung door ?

I'm wondering if you could adjust the door, to gain a little more clearance that way....?

Spring compressors on each corner?

How much more room do you really need...an inch or so?

Wheel Dollies--

Remove all 4 wheels , drop the van onto the dollies, push her in.

Fill the van with people, sandbags, lumber, etc. You'll get an inch or 2 with that.

I've heard of someone rolling into their garage on steel wheels without tires, but that could damage your driveway/garage

For me, it's the garage door and not the frame that hits the skylight.
Best solution I've found is that my girlfriend pushes up the door an inch or two as I drive in Smile When she's not around, I use a 2x4... I cant adjust the automatic door opener to take it any higher..

I'm on GW 16's and original springs and shocks... I'd LOVE to redo my shocks & springs but, I fear it'll raise it an inch and then I'm out of luck... Ha!

Opening post has about the best method so far. Care to share why you dont want to deflate?

Propping the door up w/ 2x4 sounds easier, if there's enough room to move it up. One on each side of the van.

Don't go for the temp spares. They are actually designed to be the same diameter of the road tires, just skinnier to package in a trunk. So you'd find yourself on skinnies with no height drop.

Depending on your garage opening design of course, but here's a great idea and it's from my Dad. We used to keep our boats and cars in the barn which we put a traditional garage door into one side. When the boats got bigger, he simply cut the header beam up a few inches (plenty left), and hung a hinged board across the top with a rubber seal that engaged the garage door. Up goes the door, pull the hinged board up and hook it and 6 more inches - enough to get the boats in for winter on low tires.

We are guessing here.

You show a photo of you Van with a closed door, it's helpful but not enough.

A photo of the open door would tell us a lot. Is the physical wood door opening too low or does the garage door stop shy of being fully open?

My door hangs down a few inches, something I need to adjust but haven't yet.

The first time my Van went in, I measured, double checked and eyeballed.
I took a length of 2x4 and wedged it on one side pushing the door up higher, making the door more fully open.

My 8year old Grandson then stood on a stool at the front of the garage so he could see the skylight. I drove in slowly while he kept an eye on clearance. I fit with 1 1/2" to spare.

BTW, there is no problem airing down to enter the garage.

If it is a sectional roll up, confirm what part specifically of the door would hit your rig? Do you have a typical 8' ceiling in the garage or is it open up to the rafters?

Yeah, with those tires, you could go as far as 10psi (to be safe), and not damage anything.
Someone with better experience might give you a lower number, but that is just my opinion.....

You could always lower the floor!
That is a serious suggestion, but seeing the picture that is of your garage door just get a taller garage door and install that unless you like digging.
You have more than enough room to get a taller door installed unless you have something unseen in the roof of the garage not shown in the photo.

Besides, you've got a Ghia Vert in there! You certainly don't want that sleeping outside!

NO big deal to use a 2x4 to prop open the door. I do that all the time on one of my garage doors that doesn't have an opener. If your opener doesn't open it enough try seeing if there is a range adjustment and if not just pull the disconnect lever and use the 2x4. Don't make this more difficult than you need to. Very Happy
