Anyone know how to chop a 1970s bug? Any pictures, dimensions, or anything will help. I am a skilled metal worker/welder just need a place to start.

Check out our project pics.

Think twice before you cut up a decent car. Did you fix the inner handles yet? Post specs and pics to your build thread. I looked at your gallery and didnt see the outer handles till now. Wow ...... reversed door handles?

All I can remember about chop tops at the moment is many times a “spare” bug roof from another car is used to help fabricate parts… I think I remember reading a write up in an old VW magazine where they had a “how to” type thing for chopping a top.

It will require plenty of cuts and welds to make it work. Try to get some pointers from someone that has actually done this before diving into the project... It’s always good to hear from someone that has been there and done that.

So far I haven't seen a singe good looking chop job to a beetle. I guess the lines of the whole care do not take to gently to modification.

It's a major undertaking. Be 100% confident in your custom metal fabrication skills before you start cutting. Good luck with it Cool

Yes they were there when we got it. Haven't fixed the door handles inside. Haven't even gotten it home yet.

I have a DVD of a weekend workshop that we performed a 3inch pivot point slant chop on, turned out real nice and looked natural. it is a very informative DVD. There should be pictures of it on this site? call my shop for more info. I rarely get on this site 402 474 2344
