Drove about 9,000 miles, hauled immense amounts of car parts, construction trash, and garden debris. 6 oil changes, one fuel pump replacement, burned 25 gallons of nasty old gas mixed in with fresh gas, 3 fuel filters, answered endless questions and endured many a story as I'm trying to get to work on time.
Zero VW events ( not many to choose from near me, would have liked to do 4CORE)
Zero car shows ( yay!!!! no snobby comments from someone who spent $60K to win a $10 trophy)
2 flats fixed with plugs
Turn signals started mysteriously working with great regularity
Looking forward to more dirty, sweaty, profitable miles next year combing junkyards and hauling supplies for a new carport. Getting close to 40 years of ownership! _________________ Fat chick owner/operator |

Wasn’t a huge year for me, but was a great time with new things:
New shows attended: 2
New states I took the Bus to: 1
Miles driven to new events: 200 or so.
Nights spent sleeping in the Bus: 4
Miles I floated down a Vermont river in an inner tube with other crazy VW owners: about 2.
Happy New Year all. Here’s to 2023.

A 83 1/2 Vanagon mostly road worthy, needs CV work before any long trip
A 91 Multivan with a 2.2 Subaru with a leaky rear main seal, still being driven
A 77 Bay with 1800 engine from a 1974 412. Parked for winter
A 73 Thing, running well, but with lots of crankshaft endplay, parked for winter |

6250 miles.
17.5MPG
Oil changes : 2
New fuel tank fitted. Garage left foam seal ends loose by fan .. managed to achieve a fairly balanced fan which provided almost no air flow.. CHT hit about 190C in position which never normally goes above 110C by the time I was able to stop and pull a foot of foam out of the fan.
New pistons and cylinders.. melted piston on a hill at about 60mph because timing light was 10 degrees off. (Analog with knob type) . The bus was noticeably more powerful, but only once maybe heard any pre-ignition rattle thinking back on that day..
Also replaced one cylinder head as spark plug thread was cracked ( not same cylinder as melted piston)
Fitted heated windscreen and welded screen surround, 75A alternator, then new pulleys because it drove 100 miles with a flipped fan belt riding on the rim of the bottom pulley., which then started hopping off about 1 mile from start of a trip.. No spares Available within 50 miles.. found an old spare in the bus trapped by some wiring..
Went from points back to electronic ignition after junk condensers started going bad in 500 miles.. Module known to overheat at 70F plus but its winter now.
Now half way through making up EDIS-4 wasted spark ignition with custom timing controller.
VW shows : 0
Camping trips : about 4
Time spent working from home using bus as office.. about 200 days. _________________ Ancient vehicles and vessels
1974 VW T2 : Devon Eurovette camper with 1641 DP T1 engine, Progressive carb, full flow oil cooler, EDIS crank timed ignition.
Engine 1: 40k miles (rocker shaft clip fell off), Engine 2: 30k miles (rebuild, dropped valve). Engine 3: a JK Preservation Parts "new" engine, aluminium case: 26k miles: new top end.

Didn't do very many miles again this year as I was figuring out the tuning of my fuel injection, but I did strip all the primer off and got back most of the original paint.

It's New Years Eve here in Japan (visiting family for Oshogatsu) and was thinking about my stats.
* Put about 6000 miles on the bus
* Averaged about 20mpg
* Covered a lot of BC, touched Western Alberta, Southern Yukon, Eastern Alaska, & Northern Washington State.
* Attended 1 VW show
* Camped year round (23 times) in various campgrounds and another 7 times off grid along FSRs in BC and WA.
* Drove in temps from -4F to 100F
* Did a few upgrades and minor repairs - see build thread
2022 has been a good year and am looking forward to 2023!

1972 Westfalia Campmobile tin top - mystery vanagon engine (likely 2L) with dual Weber 44 idfs and stock 3 rib transmission
Miles driven: 3,031
Mileage: 12mpg, mostly highways, hills and off-roading, not ideal tune either
Nights camped: 5, maybe a few more
On the road for the first time in probably decades time this July after I finished up the restoration. Then it went away mid November so I’d say I got a good amount of miles, I will probably do over 10,000 miles in 2023.
I am just finishing up a fuel injection conversion and will hopefully run better and get better mileage
