Posted: Tue Oct 07, 2014 12:57 pm Post subject: Seattle Meetup - Nov 1, 2014 (Marymoor Park) - Show and Tell |
|
|
I’m glad to announce our next Seattle Meetup at Marymoor. I had a lot of requests for the Fall meeting for this year:
- Should be earlier than the previous years (due to the cold)
- Shouldn’t collide with a Seahawks game
- Shouldn’t collide with the final Sounders home game
- Shouldn’t collide with the september Triple-X Root Beer VW show
- Shouldn’t be during Thanksgiving weekend (too much turkey to process)
- It could be close to Halloween (to reuse costumes I guess?)
Hopefully this new date will satisfy some (if not) of those requests
Why/What ?
Brave the elements and come out to Marymoor Park for a Westy Show and Tell Meetup. This is the day after Halloween, so feel free to bring your costumes . The idea for this one is to tell the group a little about your van and perhaps some of the best mods or projects that you have made. Consider bringing some comfort food (chiili, soup, etc) to help you stay warm while we meet. We’ve moved the meeting a month earlier, so everybody could have a chance to talk about Westy projects and adventures without getting frozen.
When
Saturday Nov 1 2014
11:00 AM
Location
Marymoor Park
6046 W. Lake Sammamish Pkwy. N.E.
Redmond, WA 98052
How to find us
"Look for the Westies"
I've talked to the Marymoor Park people and we've been directed to use again Parking Lot I (right off Marymoor Way by the Velodrome), see the park map at the following link http://your.kingcounty.gov/dnrp/library/parks-and-...web_09.pdf
This is the same parking lot as last year. Parking lot I is by a big/flat paved Recreation/Event Area and also close to the velodrome, so bring also bikes/rollers/skates/etc to have some fun! Also, in case you don't know, parking costs $1 in the park.
Background
This is the fourth time we’re having this event. In 2011 we had 50 vans, in 2012 we had 61 vans and in 2013 we had 30 vans showing up (2013 was extremely cold while at the same time the Seahawks were playing the 49ers, so it wasn’t a bad turnout). In all those years everybody had a truly great time.

Thanks for taking the lead on this again for this year. I think November 1st will make for a much nicer meet. The only thing I can think of to make it better would be to have it a little later in the day, (since I usually have a team training ride Saturday mornings, but I can skip it once). Looking forward to 50+ vans (assuming decent weather). _________________ Now:

The new date is way better than a "Frozen Fest '14" in December.
I'll be there with the Bavarian Syncro fire truck, IF it doesn't poop out for some weird reason. There might be more bugs to troubleshoot. |

Maybe I shouldn't be saying "Syncro fire truck". It's more of a fire department support vehicle. There's room for 6 in the back, but I don't see how they could get all wedged in there with their gear.

Awesome, I'll be there this time. I freely admit I stayed home last year to watch the Seahawks win the NFC Championship. _________________ She's built like a steakhouse, but she handles like a bistro! |

Hey Steve, cannot wait to see the new version of "his"
Did you ever install the new fuel pressure regulator on her van?
My kids will most probably bring their costumes, should be lots of fun!

Bump - less than 2 weeks for the meeting
Just wanted to mention that the WetWesties are having a companion campout to the meetup at Tolt MacDonald County Park (a short drive to Marymoor) on Oct 31/Nov 1st - for more details please see the event in the WetWesties calendar below
http://wetwesties.org/calendar/index.php?action=display&id=153
If you were planning to drive from far away to the meetup this might be a great option to also do some late Fall camping. _________________ 87 Syncro Westy EJ25 ("Tardis")

Maybe I should get my awning mounted. Or better yet, maybe somebody at the event could help me get it mounted It is one of those Aleko knock-offs of a Fiamma style. I have the GW brackets, but I understand it needs some tweaks to actually be mountable. _________________ '91 Syncro 16 Reimo Hightop Conversion, eTDI |

I'm bringing a lot of spares and do-dads to swap and trade. |
It sounds like this will be a bit of a swap meet as well as a GTG, so I've got some stuff to bring:
Solar setup, including 100W Ramsond panel, Morningstar Sunsaver Charge Controller, and a FullRiver DC60-12 battery (fits under driver seat in a Westy).
TV setup: 19" LCD TV, SIIG adjustable arm that let's you mount the TV onto the Westy table holder, omni-direction HDTV antenna, and power/inverter.
I'll also bring a couple of bikes that I need to sell (no room at the new house to store them). _________________ Now:
