I’m very glad to announce our next Meetup at Marymoor Park, all VW buses are welcome!
Why/What ?
Brave the elements and come out to Marymoor Park for a Westy Show and Tell Meetup. Tell the group a little about your van and perhaps some of the best mods or projects that you have made. Consider bringing some comfort food (chiili, soup, etc) to help you stay warm while we meet. TThe meeting is in October, so everybody should have a chance to talk about Westy projects and adventures without getting frozen (also close to Halloween, bring your ghosts and ghouls!).
When
Saturday Oct 26, 2024
11:00 AM
Location
Marymoor Park
6046 W. Lake Sammamish Pkwy. N.E.
Redmond, WA 98052
How to find us
"Look for the Westies"
I've talked to the Marymoor Park people and we’ve been directed to meet on Parking Lot I, by the velodrome. There’s a very nice flat paved area by it, so bring your roller-blades, skates and bicycles!
Below is a current picture of the area showing the parking division and the (circled) meetup location, we met at this lot on 2022.
And a map of Marymoor Park in general.
https://your.kingcounty.gov/gis/web/VMC/recreation/marymoor_park_map_web_16.pdf
Also, in case you don't know, parking costs $1 in the park. Please, please, please, don’t forget to pay parking, I almost got into trouble one year because some people refused to pay parking.
Background
This is the thirteenth(!) time we’re having this event (cannot believe we had a run this long, still having lots of fun!). We’ve had as low as 30 vans (2013) and more than 60 vans in 2014 (with 50 on 2015).

BUMP! (four weeks till the meetup)
I have a couple of projects that will try to tackle before the meetup:
- painting the trim of my TF-49 fridge: remove all traces of black and paint it grey to better match factory look (I already have grey laminate installed)
- replace all faulty USB connectors with ones that actually work (installed some cheap connectors severa years ago and they’re all starting to fail now)
- I have a fridge door that would like to install as a closet door, once I finish the above items will start taking measurements. Not sure I’ll be able to do it before the meetup since I’d like to do a full prototype installation onto a separate plywood before committing to cut into the cabinet (essentially doing the job twice).
Is anybody else working on projects that might be done by the meetup? _________________ 87 Syncro Westy EJ25 ("Tardis")

If not, they're slacking! I have some upgrades to show off:
- Vitrifrigo C50i fridge installed
- T3's billet upper control arms _________________ '90 White Westy ("White Lightning")

Finishing up the tune on my recent engine swap, its breaking up a little bit in boost at high RPMs... Gotta sort that out. But it crossed the 390HP mark so thats something |

406 Hp & breakup issues suggest a different vehicle is needed to attend the meetup. _________________

It means a misfire at higher RPM when the turbo is in boost. The pressure of boost can actually blow out the spark, which is what was happening... Come find me at the meet if you want a deeper explanation |

BUMP! Two weeks till the meetup!
I'm knee-deep in the TF-49 painting project (when work and dad-duties allow). As usual, had scope creep and decided to also repaint all the metal trim pieces of the fridge and the very badly-painted stove frontplate (10yrs ago was painted with a brush).
Spent several days with a Dremel removing all the old paint and rusted portions, and then used a clean metal primer and Rustoleum Smoke Gray to paint it. I'm extremely happy with how it turned out.
Now I need to focus on painting the plastic trim portions of the TF-49, and reassemble everything.

Last BUMP, one week to go!
Looks we may have a little bit of liquid sunshine, perfect Fall weather
I completed my fridge/kitchen repaint project right on time (see before/after pic below).
Doesn't look very different, but as the Little Prince says "What is essential is invisible to the eye" :
- all fridge metal trim pieces (along with stove front) were sanded and repainted, along with all the fridge plastic trim pieces
- added a new air intake vent for the Webasto (now it's blowing more air)
- relocated the Webasto control panel from the side (by the fridge vent) to the front of the stove (is now more protected and since all the old electronics in that plate were gone, I didn't lose anything)
- added 2 new USB-A+USB-C outlets in the side fridge vent.
