It is a cut between then numbers, but two sets of tins were used with cuts offset so they overlap and still seal. I'm not sure it's worth the mod though. While they should work in theory once the engine is built out and installed there are too many obstructions which prevent the half tin from coming out to access the dreaded 3rd manifold bolt. On the 3-4 side it might work if you remove the fuel pump, then the tin should slide towards you and up. The 1-2 side fouls on the case bolt below the generator stand and the manifold, so there's no way I can find to move the tin to get it out. I usually just end up pulling the shroud to remove one of the manifolds to get the engine out.
The thinking behind it was to get one manifold removed to make dropping the engine easier. I guess if you really wanted to pursue it I'd try it on the 3-4 side.
You can get an idea of it here:

Pete - can you explain the modifications to the cylinder tins to make it easier to work with the manifolds? Was it as simple as just a cut between the stamped numbers?
I'm moving to Speedwell manifolds and understand that is difficult to get all the nuts tighten down.
thanks,

Some minor changes-
I added a Speedwell USA Pre-A style oil breather (with an added tube for the 1/2 side valve cover vent).
Changed the distributor to an 010 in place of the 019, since the advance curve of the 010 pairs better with the Okrasa-style setup. It's a noticeable difference, especially at part throttle cruising at 2800-3000 rpms where the 010 is fully advanced. I should be able to pull down my jetting sizes some...I hope to do some wideband tuning this weekend.
Also swapped the blue coil out for a black one, mainly for aesthetics. The "Blue Screamer" 019 was NOS when I got it, and came with that blue coil, bracket, sticker, and original "Blue Screamer" box, so I wanted to put all of that back in the box for garage display.
I have a little over 4000 miles on this engine now, and drive it several times per week to work, etc. It's a really fun combo.

Thanks Low Brau.
No plans to Dyno. It’s almost indetical to Shin Watanabe’s 1397 that was written up in Hot VW’s and Dyno’d. 69 hp for Shin’s; mine has larger valves/slightly higher compression so maybe a hair more than that. |

PeteSC-
Do you have any plans to dyno your new toy?
Cheers,

The extra 100 cc makes the Okrasa heads engine work so much better. That you will not regret. |
