There is a guy in the middle of nowhere between King City and Paso Robles on the 101. He has somehow managed to blow out his #1 spark plug. Worse, he doesn't seem to have towing insurance and really doesn't want to pay out of pocket for such a long tow. I suggested he disconnect his #1 fuel injector and limp 12miles to the nearest town. Think that is ok?

Yes, remove injector cable plug from that cylinder, and secure the loose wires, spark and injector, and drive home. Now if you can put the plug back in, without the spark cable, that will make the engine less noisey, the plug might stay in place if not subjected to a fuel ignition in that cylinder, cause without ignition, the pressure on the plug will be greatly reduced, so it might stay in place. If the plug wont stay in, that is ok too, but the engine will be very loud with the plug removed.
Doing this i.e. no injector nor spark firing , will NOT cause any harm

Yes, and disconnect the spark plug wire & ground it somewhere (securely). I would leave the spark plug out at this point. |

Thanks for the replies. I did know to ground the plug wire. I ended up just driving out and brought him a plug. It threaded in ok. Unfortunately, he had told me he had tools with him and I didn't bring any of my own. Turns out he didn't have a plug socket🙄. Oh well, we finger tightened it in as best we could and drove it back to Atascadero. In the morning we'll tighten it up good and he'll be on his way.
Thanks again!

"Emergency roadside advice needed!"
Samba is kinda "worldwide".
Recommend to add location in subject line to get attention of nearby members. _________________

Thanks Dave! I was glad to do it. I can't really work on mine, so it's fun to work on or help out on someone else's van. Turns out that I actually had a large part I wanted to buy in S.D. and the seller was going to find out the shipping. Now, instead, the guy I helped is going to try and pick it up for me. The karma is already flowing back! Thanks for adding "resolved" to the title.
