I like standard's the most - that '60 is very nice, but it's a 1960 - if I had $20K to spend, i'd look at type ones, older than 3/55, with semaphores, large fuel tank, oval or split dash, smaller lights and so on...
… '60's are nice and the lasta' the old schoolers, but no cigar - is just me - AS my cutoff for type ones is 3/55.
I don't thionk you could go wrong with that CANADIAN STANDARD _________________ 5/50, pastel green 11G - SOLD

"Tastefully lowered" is an oxymoron, but I'll try to stay otherwise objective in my analysis . It looks like an exceptional car. Putting the stance and all associated parts back to original should be included in the price (as it may be.) That, IMHO, recovers some value. The seller touts ORIGINAL PAINT in the description, but I wonder why there's a wee sliver of blue overspray present on a window gasket . Look a the google photo gallery at IMG_4612 in the upper left corner and there's the paint on the gasket. Does it kill the value. No. Maybe it's just a very OLD respray and the seller just assumes it to be original. Or maybe it was an area that needed some attention at some point. Who knows? I'd really want to see undercarriage pics and quite a few. It is certainly a contender for a premium price if it as honest as the photos seem to represent (notwithstanding the re-spray question.) See if you can find a Sambian in Miami to go take an objective gander. In the meantime, talk to the seller and get a "gut-check." Ask for any detailed photos that will help satisfy your questions about condition. A seller's willingness (or lack thereof) to accommodate tells me a lot. _________________ -Kent (BaT "daleallen")

$20k on the above described in the same condition as the '60 would be more of a down-payment than a full purchase price. _________________ -Kent (BaT "daleallen")

| I'd offer him less. It's been on here for a while and enclosed shipping from Miami to Bakersfield Ca. is going to be expensive. Nice car though. |

Just for comparison, I paid $12k for my 54 Oval in similar condition in 2011.
No way would I pay $20k for that car. The originality is nice, but it needs some attention. I’d say it’s worth $10k, but you have to decide what you’re willing to spend. |

Rust issues around window seal, evidence of respray on rubber window seal, roof paint worn thru, door window sill paint worn thru, rust on left front wheel rim, plus lowered, all add up to less than 20k as a good price. _________________ Help Prevent VW Engine Fires, see this link.....Engine safety wire information

Apples and bowling balls, good one ! So, I have been searching for a standard, a ragtop, oval, or vert. Anyone of those will suit me just fine for my next bug. |

With Splits in the $50k-$75k range, $20k will get you a running Oval needing a lot of work.
As for what was purchased for what price in 2011, it only takes 6 months to a year for prices on a desirable vehicles to increase exponentially. I know someone that bought a 97 993 Turbo for $85k in 2015, only to sell it for $180k 18 months later.
For what is being asked, and a lot of times gotten, for 70’s Beetles, and Bay Window Buses in Western Pa., $20k is by no means out of line for the 60. Some have disputed the info on their birth certificate, but everything matches on this one, and there is nothing out of the ordinary to really dispute. With so many abortions of hacked up, component swapped, shit people are trying to pass off as original, or restored, finding a 60 year old VW that has this much originality has become EXTREMELY rare.
If all your willing to spend is $10k, keep looking, and for vehicles much newer. You could have a nice 67 in similar condition for $10k. You won’t find any comparable era vehicles from the big three anywhere close to $20k. |

I have to agree with some of the above. you are doing the right thing and shop shop shop. We have and walked away from several over priced needs tons of stuff cars. The last car we found parked for ten years under pine trees for $850.00. A complete unmolested car. Now it is running and driving to our safety specs. Took forever to get the sap off which did save the original paint. Nothing wrong with finding one done, just keep in mind that you may have to undo some stuff. _________________ Volkswagen: We tune what we drive.

I guess the old adage that a car is worth what someone is willing to pay for it holds.
I wouldn't pay that much for a Bug that only a VW nut would pay the premium -- for a rare (in the US) model. Many wouldn't notice. Driving it will age it and diminish its value further.
Have we sunk to the point where a leap-day car is somehow worth more?
Did I miss it, or was no mileage given?
But if that model is what you are jonesing for, then its worth it, right? |

That's actually what my real plan is, and that's what I want to do. I am not good at paint/body work, and that's what makes me nervous. But, at the same time, at least i'll know it's not a Frankenstein underneath all that shiny paint. I have to learn someday. I've missed some good priced projects, ones that I could almost handle, if it wasn't for the pans rusted through. |
