Looks AWESOME!! Congrats on getting to this stage, I know the feeling. Have been following your project for a long time and great to see you have reached this stage! As Marc said, seriously jealous of what you have parked on each side. Let us know if you post up that bus.....

That was fast! Sounds like you will be doing some late Spring cruising in it at this rate. _________________ Go Reds! Smash state!

Brilliant - that was a pretty fast re-assembly and great to have it home again and looking so good! Looking forward to seeing the new roof.
On that black gunk on the hood winder handle, if you haven't already sorted it, I would try paint thinners or acetone (wearing gloves). Those shift most stuff. Was it put in there to stick the handle in the up position after the little cam in the handle broke? A Ghia guru I met here said he bought an NOS Huf top winder handle and it broke and dangled down almost immediately! He used a blob of blue tack (poster tacky) inside it to hold it up after that. |

Thanks and yeah thats what i suspect it was used for. I havent sorted it yet as i was afraid to try anything. I actually put it in the freezer for a few days thinking if it got really cold it might just clump off. no such luck. Thanks for the tip. _________________ July 1959 Mango Standard Bus aka Obus L346 L347 https://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=256592&highlight=

It's so awesome to see how perfect the body gaps are, especially the doors. It's so common to see door gaps that are way off, but yours are like factory perfect. Car looks fantastic. _________________ Marc

Bravo, obus!
Your fenderwell mud guards- I don't know if they were body color, at least in the early years- but satin black will certainly look OK. It does take a bit of fiddling to get each guard back into the fenderwell. Press the guard outwards so that the outer rubber seal is compressed, and the guard's vertical lip on the inner side contacts the long edge of the body lip so that there's no gap where water can get in. You can use a fender washer under the bolt head (painted black or body color) to spread the tightening torque over a larger area. There's not much torque to them anyway- just ratchet hand tight. Apply anti-seize grease to their threads beforehand. |
