A little progress.

Repaired the side supports and finished the B-pillar.
On this side the body is now connected to the frame.
Not quite finished yet.

The left corner and the D-pillar are finished.
Unfortunately, I had problems with my welding machine on the corner. Too much warping. Luckily the finish is not a high gloss finish. Hope the right side will be better.

And the inner edge renewed. The gap is filled with sealant. You can't see it later and it's stable

Did you and sled ever get together about getting the wheels to you? After all this work Ring Free needs its original wheels! I would be happy to kick in $30 towards shipping them and i'd bet others would as well...

Thanks to you.
Unfortunately there is nothing new yet. F**k Covid Evil or Very Mad
and when the temperature drops, so does my motivation.

The idea with the rims is certainly nice, but I think the costs are very high. Shipping to Belgium/Europe. But you never know, maybe something will come up.

I would be so interested in the history of the bus.
I wrote to Sled once but got no response.
The bus was offered here on theSamba. I don't think the ads are saved. It was around summer 22 and in the title there is a name "Kitsanong Denpong" Is it here on Samba? How many owners did the bus have after it was recovered?

If anyone knows anything, please let me know

If it was listed here I should have the ad.

I don't see that Bus listed in Summer 2022.
Do you have any more details such as where it was listed?
US state?

I don't know that name, unless that is the user kit---wa or one of his friends?
I don't see that Bus listed in the past from him.
His current ads:

Re the original wheels, I have used a couple of different guys who ship containers over from usa to uk or Ireland in the past to ship some small parts for myself. I have had good experience with these guys and costs were very reasonable. I'm aware of a container leaving california next year for Ireland. I'd be more than happy to assist in any way I can help if this is if interest to you. I can take delivery here in Ireland and forward them to you.

Just a suggestion that may help.

Awe inspiring project btw 😎

That name sounds familiar but I don't know why or remember who it is.

I did some searches and didn't find anything out of WA with "ken" in the name.

There was this guy in CT that looks like he has the same name:
https://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=276477
He's banned from 2008 though... unless he moved and didn't use his name in the new ad?

I found this too

The bus was sold by user dlx61 (dave)

The wheels have since been sold. I offered them, but nothing came of it, so I sold them to someone else.

When I get some time, I will post the story of this bus and some photos of when it was pulled out of a swamp.

Ok, the Bus was in this "Group" ad in the past
https://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=2422014

There's not much detail there so maybe Sled can provide all of the info.

I'll bring you another update

Title: 1 step forward, 3 steps back

I'm in my winterhole and with the cold and time of year I don't like being in the workshop.

I have tried to do something on a few days

My plan for the side panel was to repair the bottom of the sill, patch the edge of the wheel arch and put the patch in at the rear corner.
I still had a sill but it was cut up and actually too short. Anyway, it was there, so I gave it a try. Reassembled and fitted.

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

Then I made a patch for the edge of the wheel arch and welded it in. Visually OK, but the Panel has warped so much. There are reinforcements on the back and the MIG welds hold all the stresses in place. Impossible for me to straighten again. I don't have the skills or the tools. It doesn't work well with MIG either.

So, the sill is too short, the corner at the back is missing, the edge at the bottom is actually no longer good either, there are also holes behind the reinforcement and my huge wave and dent in the Panel.
I don't like it, out with it.

That's the status now.

I'm currently making my first TIG attempts. I'm a complete beginner and I often grind the tungsten during my first short exercises. I'm using the time to watch instructional videos on TIG welding

Hello everyone,
Second attempt to repair the side panel.

First the C-pillar reinstalled. I had the ones from BBT and Autocraft. A side panel from KF and Autocraft. Somehow nothing fits together properly without massive modification. All the tolerances add up. The Autocraft pillar was about 2-3 mm narrower. Depending on how you insert it, the position of the hinge mount naturally changes.
I installed the one from BBT, loosened the hinge mount in the pillar, attached the side part. Door inserted, opening for the hinge offset 5mm. I was very surprised. Has anyone done this before? Then put the hinge attachment in the right place and welded it back in.

I was unsure whether to weld or glue. I decided to weld and was quite nervous about it.
But I'm happy with the result. The connection to the corner still has the right amount of damage

There is an opening at the bottom of all the repair panels. Does it have to be like this?
