hi all
My 66 van had a 4inch narrowed beam fitted that I am replacing with a stock one. When I come to fit the arms into my "new" beam I have found that the sleeve thing on the arms has been cut off which means that the arms do not fit the needle bearings ;-(

From what I have read, many narrow beams use some kind of plastic for the bearings (delrin?) and instruct the installer to remove the sleeve on the arm.

It is the bit in red I have highlighted below

So question : Does anyone sell these sleeves so I can hammer/bash them back on? I chekled the usual places and only see full arms. All 4 arms will be like 500 quid (I am in UK).
Is it even possible without like a 100 ton press?

On my narrowed beam the race was left on the first set, and cut off on my second set of plastic bushings.

The plastic bushings are used lieu of the needle bearings like this post shows.

They can be pressed on an off.

I have a set of these bushings, pressed them off '66-'67 arms some 20 years ago. Did them on a 20 ton press, but does not need that much. PM me if interested in them.

Thanks for replys.

I think I have to stick with the half-assed urethane bushes I now have even though they feel a bit soft. I am in the UK and cant find a supplier of new sleeves except by buying the whole arm.

Also worth putting a wanted ad on the Vw split Facebook group in case anyone has either a used set or the sleeves you’re after.
