Met up with some friends this morning. A few of us had the itch to explore an area for future camping.
We head out about an hour South East of Portland to Goat Mountain.
A chunk of this area got torched by wild fires in 2022. Eerie, sad, and yet still beautiful.
Time to ascend the mountain towards snow.
Let’s see what these 14” Hankook skateboard wheels can do on my 85

Pretty darn good actually. We passed a few Jeeps and a sweet Bronco on the way down. They had big smiles and thumbs up. I didn’t see any Toyota Tundra pickups with mills in the back of the bed

Stretch the legs and walk the dogs. Could be a nice camp spot this summer.

Meet up for warm coffee and head home.

I've always loved that area, I spend a lot of time remote working out that way. Even after the fires its a beautiful place to hang out! |

LOVE this post!
It would be so cool to live somewhere with more than just a couple
hundred feet elevation change within 800 miles…

Thanks folks for enjoying my slide show. I would totally be my dad in the 70s inviting friends and family over for the vacation slide show that nobody wants to watch
I do love road trips. I pretty much look at all the road trip threads on the Samba.

New engine seems to be breaking in well. Have a nice long road trip coming up to the original owners of the 85 Vanagon’s home. More slides coming _________________ Keep on Busin'

My Dad did the same with slide shows in the ‘70s, so naturally I carried that into the 2010s.
Kinda regretted that once seeing how hard it was on old slides after I started scanning them, but have means of fixing that, too.

Great trip report. Trust me, you can still bore your friends to death using a photo viewer on your tv or pc. Plus! You can add in a video every once in awhile. Kind of like having the slide projector and the Super 8 film projector side-by-side.

Morel mushrooms appear the year after a forest burn in the PNW which means I walk through burns every spring. I've transitioned from thinking that a wildfire is terrible to seeing the beauty of the destruction and new growth in burn areas. Unfortunately, there's an ominous side to this.

A buncha the Portland Gang is headed that way, they're trying hard to get me to come along but I'm not sure I can make it work this year. |
