Late Type 4 Front Brake Caliper, Like New Price: $125

I usually only work on Type 3 parts, but someone sent me this caliper thinking it was correct for a Type 3. This is an OE ATe late Type 4 or 914 42 mm front caliper in very good condition, with the wider, 53 mm pad pocket to accept the thicker pads. It fits all Type 4s, '73-4 and possibly some late '72s. I've rebuilt it to make sure that it's in good shape inside as well as outside. The outside still has much of its original gold chromate coating. The inside is like new.
The pistons have been assembled in the correct rotation for a right caliper, but I can rotate them if you need a left. Be sure to tell me what you need so I can give you the right orientation.
It does NOT have the internal compensating pins; they have been broken out by some previous rebuilder. You can see the non-OE hollow front piston in one of the photos. This would make a perfect mate for another caliper with the compensating pins broken out. I have driven with and without those pins and can't tell any difference, but I think it would be best for the calipers on one axle to be alike.
The pad retaining pins in the photos may not be the OE style for your late VW Type 4, but they will work. I found a pair of the correct longer pins that you can have at the same price if you prefer.
This price does not include the piston retaining plates, anti-rattle spring, or the thicker late pads, but I can provide those if you need them. If you already have calipers that just need to be rebuilt, I can do that for MUCH less money. Contact me.
