| What do you all think of EuroMax or IAP steering gears. My 71 bug is all over the road , all new components except the gear. |

If you’re referring to the steering box, have you tried adjusting yours, prior to replacing it? Also things like running the correct front tire pressure and good alignment are super important for steady tracking and steering in these cars.
The aftermarket steering boxes from sources like TRW, IAP, Euromax, etc. all tend to have an extremely poor reputation for quality — lots of posts on this forum and others from folks complaining about them. Would recommend you check on the supplier’s return policy (and/or your comfort level w/ losing money on a gamble), before “rolling the dice” on one of those.
About your only option for an acceptable or good quality new steering box nowadays are from sources like VWNOS and Airkewld — not particularly inexpensive, but they both warranty and stand behind what they sell, to best of my knowledge.

Have you had a professional 4 wheel alignment done after all new components?
If not I'd do that first. |

Have you tried adjusting your box? There is a nut and screw at the top. As long as you can see some thread on that screw you should be able to adjust it.

At some point, a light went on for me—it’s usually not the parts.
It’s the order of installation and the process used to reset the steering system correctly.
In most cases, the entire steering system needs to be reset from the ground up, not just assembled with new components.
Proper Steering System Installation Order
(No steering components should be installed prior to this process.)
1. Install the Steering Box and Pitman Arm
Mount the steering box to the beam and torque it to factory specifications.
