I restored a 1974 KG hardtop a long time ago and its long been sold. However, the ONE SINGLE ITEM I couldn't part with was the hood-ornament. It is very detailed and pretty and I think its either made of enamel or porcelain but not sure. I've never seen another one on a KG and typically, actually I've only seen the VW aluminum hood-ornament.
1. Why it was made? My 1974 was the last year of the KG and the "deluxe" version from I was told and this badge was on the vehicle pre-restoration.
2. Was it made to commemorate the final year of build or was it the de facto emblem for the "deluxe" model? TBH I'm not sure if there was a deluxe but maybe rather the "Wolfsburg Edition" in the final year.
3. That said, it might not be from the final year at all. I talked to the owner of a 1961 Beetle and he had the same hood-ornament/emblem on his car but in factory Beetle form (NOT ROUND).
4. Any thoughts on the value? I assume they are rare but in terms of desirability I'm not so sure.
Thanks for your thoughts...have a good Summer.

The Wolfsburg logo relates to the area in Lower Saxony where VW is headquartered. Osnabruck is just a bit west of it where Karmann Coachworks is located and where the KGs were built. The Wolfsburg logo is also on the stock steering horn cover.
I always had hoped there would have been an Osnabruck logo.

Someone took one of these hubcap inserts and attached it to an original nose badge. The three pins on the back match the pins on the hubcap inserts.

It might have been an earlier iteration of the hubcap insert since, with the colours and the bricks appearing in the castle wall, it is closer to the beetle hood logo having the form of a shield.
Interesting

It does appear to be an older version. A google image search of "vw wolfsburg hubcap insert" turns up some different designs, but none that match the OP's. So in that respect it may have value to the right person looking for that specific hubcap insert.
These are the hubcaps they go on

I
've had this thing for years and never knew what exactly it was for. The back has what I believe is a makers logo but I've never seen it before. Anyone know if there's an outfit called RUE? |

I'm guessing it's this company in Germany that manufactures medallions
