That breakfast beard reminds me of the time I worked in Eastern Europe.
The cafes had baskets full of that brown bread and small squeeze tubes of Sinep, a very spicy yellow mustard. Spread a little of the Sinep on the bread and enjoy.
To bad we cannot get that mustard here in the US.

Squawks:
Starter not wanting to turn over. Fine with the jump pack.
Second morning same thing but I hear a ‘snap’ from the battery area when turning the key. I only have the carpet covering the battery so it is easy to access (and apparently easy to hear). Upon inspection the neg clamp was very loose. The storage place disconnects the battery during storage and apparently did not fully seat the clamp. My bad. I knew they did this and should have checked. Seated the clamp and it starts like a champ.
High rpm oil light and buzzer go off for a second every now and then. Would cause extreme adrenaline rush except I have an oil pressure gauge. When it went off at 100kph I looked at the steady 48psi on the gauge and gave the idiot light the finger.
This happens every few months. I have checked the obvious wiring and find nothing wrong.
Cost of oil pressure gauge system $100+. Piece of mind…. priceless. _________________ Dave O

Oh, that looks like European camping!
I remember fondly the lane discipline on northern European roads - so easy to deal with after the gong show that is the BC highway. It got worse in the south of France but was still better than here. _________________ '84 Vanagon GL 1.9 WBX

Driving on the Autobahn is fun, but as you are seeing there are reduced speed areas and as I found out they use cameras with bright flashes, you know when you've gotten a ticket.
If I had read German I would have read the posted speed reduction sign up ahead.
Have a great rip Dave, I'll be your imaginary passenger as you drive through Europe.

Fun fact, if you don't have a German license plate, you won't get a ticket from a Blitzer. Even if you rent a vehicle from another European country you won't get one. However if that vehicle registration is ever transferred to Germany, you will owe on all those tickets! _________________ 1986 Canadian Syncro Westy TDI - 1989 Syncro Single Cab - 2001 Audi S4 - 1981 VW Caddy ABA - 1980 VW Caddy EV - 1973 VW T-181 |

Last day in Poland.
I have been in Szczecin, Wroclaw, and now Krakow.
In Szczecin I grabbed a hotel for one night since there were no convenient camps.
There was a very convenient camp in Wroclaw on the Odra river and I stayed there for two nights but the weather turned rainy quickly and I decided not to venture out much other than a walk along the river.
For Krakow I was not able to get a spot at the camp I wanted so again I grabbed a hotel right at the edge of the historic part of town. Luckily there is an outdoor 24/7 guarded parking lot on the same block as the hotel.
Need to be flexible.
Szczecin
Parking at my hotel was secure.
Camp Odra at Wroclaw
A small bar on the Odra right next to the camp, open on the weekends. I manged to catch it upon arrival Sunday afternoon.
On my walk along the Odra.
Dinner. Brats, potatoes, and onions fried together in olive oil. Yummy.
And the rain.
Driving to Krakow.
Parking in Krakow.
The hotel.
First course of dinner in the historic old town of Krakow.
It is afternoon now. I'll wander back out this evening for dinner.
On to Slovakia tomorrow for a spacemodeling contest.

No ticket for foreign (european) license plates is a myth, rental cars included. Ask me how I know. There are agreements between several european countries for that. They'll get you.
But I agree, they probably won't put up with the hassle to send a fine to a US address. They theoretically could get you through your insurance, I suppose they have your address?
Sounds like a cool trip you're having. There's loads of places in eastern Europe that I would like to visit. I've only made it to very few eastern european countries so far |

My mom goes to Germany all the time to visit family. She has definitely gotten tickets while driving rental vehicles and had the tickets arrive at her address here in the States. High resolution photos of her face driving too, lol. _________________ '87 Syncro Ferric Oxyhydroxide Superleggera Edition

Interresting, so they actually do then. That then means they won't bother if you choose not to pay, because they probably can't impound. But upon re-entry through customs into the country you got the fine from they'll certainly have a surprise waiting for you then. |

That is understandable with a rental car. The ticket goes to the rental car registration and then to the renter.
In my case I wonder how they will get back to me? They'd have to check my Maryland plate through our DMV. I have no problem paying any tolls (no speeding fines so far) but curious how much reciprocity there is? I'll find out though.... _________________ Dave O

If you get a rental car in Germany and get blitzed in Germany, the rental company forwards the ticket to you. If you rent a car in Netherlands and get blitzed in Germany, they have no way to enforce it, or it might not be worth pursuing.
At least I never got a ticket when it happened to me about 4 years ago. _________________ 1986 Canadian Syncro Westy TDI - 1989 Syncro Single Cab - 2001 Audi S4 - 1981 VW Caddy ABA - 1980 VW Caddy EV - 1973 VW T-181 |
