Well, they're both "College Beers", stuff that it was cool to drink while in college. Corona is treated the same as Bud in Mexico, and it was pretty humorous when people were paying $3 a bottle to drink the stuff north of the border during the '80s.
If you want a good beer from Mexico, try Bohemia Lager. That brewery was started by expat Germans using German methods.

The sad thing is that American brought watery beers upon themselves. While some folks think that it was a vast conspiracy by the Big Brewers, the fact is that they brew what people buy.
In the late 1800s, there were a lot of locally brewed ales and, unfortunately some of them were sour swill. Some German folks in Milwaukee decided to brew German-style lagers, which were lighter than the ales that most folks drank. These caught on and some of the big breweries were born. People liked the taste of the lagers and the bigger breweries provided a consistant product, something sadly lacking in many small local breweries.
After a time brewery magnate Adolphus Busch visited Europe and tried some beer in the Budweis region. He decided to try to duplicate the still-lighter Budweis brew and called it Budweiser.
Later, it was found that beer drinkers wanted still lighter brews and light beer was born. The people wanted it and the brewers provided it.
Luckily, modern mini- and micro-brewing techniques produce much more consistant brews than their old-time counterparts so we can once again enjoy a wide variety of products. We no longer have to risk encountering a sour brew in our search for variety. |

Authentic German you ask for? If you haven't tried Paulaner...

Don't drink much & like beer that I don't have to drink much of...
in the frige now
Yuengling Lager 22oz Brown bottles w/ clear lables (americas oldest Brewery) Don't know why but was not quite the same as the 12oz green bottles, Actually was better & I had to try both at the same time to be sure.
Weihenstephaner Hefe Weissbier (Worlds oldest Brewery) Not my fav weiss beer, don't dig the coriander?? taste. Deja-vu as I bought it before & it did not taste any better. Like the rental movie you rented before & did not remember till you put the movie & started watching it... BAH...
These are leftovers from my Christmas visits w/ family, gotta BYO or drink coors light...
Some of the recent cases I can remember
Hacker~Pschorr Various brews
Hoegaarden
Weihenstephaner Original
Paulaner Oktoberfest Märzen One of the best I have had, wishin I had some now... _________________ 68 BUS

| I saw someone posted a pic of it earlier but Spaten Optimater is top notch. We call it "two shovels upside the head." Check out the label. |
