So, no engines in the hotel room yet? I guess it might be a good thing Brian didn't show up.
Glad to hear nearly everybody has made it so far, and look forward to seeing the pictures. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

The Midwest caravan made it. About 4 hours later than originally planned. the scenic route was great, but a little longer than we thought and we had one major roadside repair.
After stopping off for fuel, Jill's Ghia started making the tell-tale rattle of the fan housing bolt coming loose. The ones behind the large fan.... We pulled into the next parking lot and found a little shade. We fished around in the tin housing hoping it was something that got sucked in. No luck.
Jim and I jumped in and started disassembly. Turns out neither of us had the required 30mm socket for the fan bolt. Fortunately the plaza we pulled into had an Advanced Auto Parts store. Couldn't have pulled into a better spot. Or had a better place for this to happen.
3 hours later we were back on the road. Nice and quiet with no death rattle. Huge thank you to Jim Adney for all his help with the surgery and to Melissa for keep Jill company while we worked.
Jill took some great photos and video that I will have to get posted up.
We had a late dinner and said hi to the rest of the Invaders. Tomorrow is the day trip down to Watkins Glen. Should be fun. |
I should have stopped but I'm not one for mid-repair introductions! I saw you working away but I was in a hurry to get home. Depressingly enough my Square is still on stands waiting an install of a third brand new master cylinder, hopefully this one works out I'd love to make it out, if not to the Invasion but at least the June Jitterbug in Ontario Sat- Sun. Off to find a leg willing to bleed brakes with me after work.... Good Luck guys! |

I don't remember having a fuel issue, I run out of gas often as my gauge doesn't work properly, and I'm running a little rich at idle, but its all good under the hood.

I did that for a week till I broke the valve in half and punched a hole in the piston and destroyed the head.
I need a huge sign for my car that says "under construction" so I don't feel bad about having the worst looking car here, everyone has an awesome looking type 3 with bare minimal rust, and running great and quiet. I can't hear myself think while driving _________________ '72 Square Daily Driver (Under Construction) |

Well, I meant just having to drive it home to Rochester because I figured nobody probably brought new heads with them on a road trip. _________________ https://imgur.com/user/FisherSquareback/posts

In Tram's opinion that entire carburetor setup is a fuel issue.
And as for everyone else having "nice cars" ask the Watkins crew about my flat black jalopy that by some miracle made it around the track and back home without falling in half. I don't dare try the round trip to Rochester with it. Hope everyone up there is enjoying the Dinosaur BBQ dinner. I'm very jealous!!!
It was a blast meeting everyone and seeing more T3s than I have ever seen! I'm trying to get pics uploaded but our internet is being really spotty right now. I'm really hoping to see the video that was taken on the track. _________________ 1974 VW Westfailia Campmobile Deluxe (Clementine)

The black notch with louvers was rebuilt by Sean from Nova Scotia with my Oregon metal. I think he might have sold it as he has been missing here for a couple years. Nice to see that it is 'on the road again!' _________________ https://imgur.com/user/FisherSquareback/posts

Looks like 20 cars went around WGI, with 6 of them Fastbacks. Nice turn out on them.
Was Jill's T-34 KG the only one there?
Nice to see Gail behind the wheel of HER car. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof
