I'm not exactly certain which measurements you need, but if you look in the 1960 Karmann Ghia Workshop Manual - Body which can be found along with the 1960 Owner's Manuals under the Technical tab above, you'll find a diagram on pages A72-3 and A72-4 that is labeled with all sorts of dimensions which can be referenced to other parts of the body.
There's lots of great helpful information found in that manual, and I hope it helps you out with your current project. |
Thanks for the info, when I saw the words "Workshop Manual", my heart said YEA; The thinking is that the Service Manual is widely available also less expensive than the actual Workshop Manual, ESPECIALLY with/for Vintage VW's; While in many cases the Service Manual does help, The Workshop Manual is very specific and more thorough, It's a MUST in a mechanics shop, again many thank you mucho!! |

The most amazing thing about knowledge is that when you actually get to understand whatever it is that you want to know, it's usually because you just paid an inordinate amount of money for something you suddenly realize you could have done it yourself; HOWEVER, please don't let my words stifle you, plant that seed and watch it grow. You have the interest, keep at it, you start out with the interest, then you find someone or a place and you like what you see (it's a VW), so you ask questions, you go see weekend shows, then you buy your first book ON THE SUBJECT; TIME AND MONEY HAS BEEN SPENT, BUT, YOU GAINED SOMETHING OUT OF IT; It takes time and real interest just to know a little about your favorite model. A very well known figure in building a better VW was Gene Berg, he built VW's to keep up with the Big Boys out on the American highways; hope my style doesn't disturb your computer; Good Luck! |

Yes Patrik - the waffle sunvisors did come in (at least) two versions.
Beige and grey. Here are some pics of my NOS grey and a used beige one.

Hey Antoine, those don’t look Karmann. They used the same C style through 63, it’s very similar to what’s on my 63 B coupe Porsche.

Well .... my March 1956 Ghia has an all plastic striker with a center rib. I'll have to find a good real picture but it does show it in the parts book. I think a 57 I had contained the similar ones. It is different than the one generalized as being used through 63 that contains metal.

When I bought my ’62 Ghia some 25 years ago it still had these door lock catches on it:
But time to time the doors were not locking properly and I found that strange brown “plastic” filler material was starting to peel off. Finally, I had to change them with those C -style repro catches.
Here the filler is completely gone:
Some years ago, I was happy to find these NOS catches here at Samba. They looked to be in great condition, and I wanted to replace the repros with the original type catches:
Very soon I learned that the filler on these NOS parts was also chunking off and I could not use them.
Here is also a picture of an article on the Road and Track magazine from March 1962 showing that this type of door lock catches was actually used on Karmann Ghia’s at some point. The car on the article is probably ’62 model because you can see the seatbelt mount on the tunnel.

The odd 2-piece door striker plates might be once introduced in 1961 (factory "Progressive Refinements" part 1, A-56, can be seen on TheSamba).
These catches can be also found on a very original car:

Short question:
Is this the right ignition switch for my 60:
? I guess yes, due to the screw connections but want to be sure before buying it.
Thanks!

I think 60 Ghias had push on connectors like Beetles. I think only buses started the 60 production year with screw and then mid year went to push on. Someone correct me if I’m wrong. _________________ Go Reds! Smash state!
