Back in the 80's JSC (Johnny's Speed and Chrome) bought something like 80,000 of them and started to market them as "Super Cool Tins".
If you're talking about using them on open bay vehicles like Bajas and Dune Buggys then maybe. But on Sedans they do not cool better than the stock Type 1 tins.
Super Cool tins are actually Type 3 tins and are designed to be used with the Type 3 pancake fan shroud.
This has been debated many times and I won't be revisiting that again.
If they work for you then that's just fine and dandy. |

I guess we disagree on that. Cool Tins are Type 3 tins and in my opinion don't cool as well. |
Ok Mr. Smarty pants.....then why do the call the "cool" tins?
I think we can agree to disagree. We (RC) do so many engines that are NOT for sedans that cool tins far outweigh gathering all the little bits and pieces that you still can't use with headers. If I were building anything like a stocker with heat I WOULD NOT use cool tins. _________________ [email protected] Please use email for all general inquiries.

You use those little deflectors with the sleds. cool tins replace them.
You cant use the sleds with the cool tins.
If you're running a thermostat, you need the sleds

That thread of mine shows a pretty good closeup of parts #3 and #4 of your pic installed

I don't have the part numbers, but they should be the same on all gas powered, water cooled Vanagons. Mid-1983 to end of production.
Two of the tabs that attach to the exhaust studs have to be modified to fit a Type 1 engine.
These are very thick and strong.
The thermostat will not work with this. _________________ 1957 Vintage Baja Bug.

Wow those look really solid! You definitely answered my question about being able to mount them on the head somewhere.
Well played sir. |

Oh okay. So they're kind of suspended by the 2 screws where the sled is attached to the case? |

So these industrial tins mount to the sleds but nowhere by the head? I watched the install video on the Awesome Powder Coating website and it looks like they just hang there.
Is this how they all are? Is it how the 126 tins are on Glenn's? I can't really tell. |
