Anyone else notice a lack of these pollinators this summer? Haven't spotted any Monarchs this year, and only one june bug.
Sort of scary. _________________ "Albatross"! |

Yes... I’ve only seen a few. Last year and years before, I have plants outside my living room window that usually get eaten up by June bugs.... I seen a few on the leaves early and then none... the plant is untouched. But I have noticed a lot more small birds and mammals... nature is having a difficult time calibrating all of the mess that humans are inflicting on the earth but momma always wins😉. |

Planted some milkweed here and have seen a few Monarchs and caterpillars. Was hoping to see more. _________________ Brian

As a youngster we would find hundreds of bees in a clover field - now you typically see just a few. Not a good sign.

NC. Southern West Piedmont .... The Hummingbirds and lightning bugs came out early.. and the Butterflies came out late. They finally started showing up early August. Agreed less Monarchs though.
We have large Lantana's and a Butterfly bush which always attract them.. along with the writing spiders.
We can tell when the cooler weather is near .. the Hummingbirds go into a feeding frenzy and then .. POOOF.. they are gone.
Its nature.... it runs in cycles. Pay attention ..
My son is a Meteorologist .. he keeps telling me ... Summer and Winter will slowly continue to get longer with shorter and less periods of Spring and Fall..
Sure seems correct based on the last 10 years.

Generally fairly large spiders, black with yellow markings
They like to do a thicker zig-zag through their web
My parents have a few at their house, tempted to kidnap one |

Sometimes the writing looks legible.
These are the type of spider in the children's book/movie “Charlotte’s Web”.
They can get to about 2.5”-3”. If you or something too big touches their web, they will try to shake the web. They’re fun to feed to watch them wrap up their prey in the extra webbing that is the “writing”. _________________ Everybody born before 1975 has a story, good, bad, or indifferent, about a VW.

I planted 2 Lantanas in May, 1 gallon containers and they are over 3 foot tall now. PLENTY of butterflies, I hope these will overwinter in Virginia. |

Early in Spring we had tons of painted ladies due to the superbloom of California poppies, this summer we have tons of Monarchs. They usually come to my wife's garden as she has tons of flowers, milkweed. It doesn't help that many dummies in LA county removed their green gardens for astro turf and succulents. _________________ I'd be UNSTOPPABLE if not for Law Enforcement and PHYSICS.

About normal here for most butterflies although the swallowtails seem to be less common. Grasshoppers are WAY up in numbers and frogs are Way down. A dry spring and summer, just normal weather cycles for here.
It will be interesting to see how the garter snake population fared this year when they come home to winter in our root cellar. They have been down the last 3 or 4 years. |

Charlotte was based off a Barn Spider Araneus Cavaticus

I detest spiders of any type.

Our Lantana variation is called Ms. Huff with orange yellow and pink blooms. They are not the dwarf version. They are very invasive and yes...are currently about 3 feet tall and beautiful.
We planted them in beds and have lost them to frost 2 times since 2012. They have shallow roots and do not take a hard freeze at all.
I've learned to protect and insulate the roots.
The Butterfly Bush grows HUGE like 10 feet tall and wide with long purple blooms
Both get cut way back early winter when the time is right.
The hummers and butterflies love em...
One thing I've noticed...the Lantana and Butterfly Bush both have a stink about them....but the surely attract the pollinators.
It's very therapeutic to watch them do their work.

Id hesitate to predict future winter and summer times based on the last ten years of records. seasons change in length, longer or shorter. Been doing that for a long long time.
For me we are having a mild summer, not a lot of heat waves. last winter was very wet, the winter before was drought. Things change, but they are not real predictable. _________________ Help Prevent VW Engine Fires, see this link.....Engine safety wire information

If you want to help with the butterflies or just want to see more of them, then plant butterfly friendly flower gardens. I have seen an increase in bees and butterflies since I started a vegetable garden last year. |

Native bees here have been in short supply but two years ago someone started placing honey bee hives all around here and not just a few either. The difference in the wild berry yield has been amazing! I'm sure the pollen dependant crops have had a similar gain.
And as a bonus local residents are enjoying free honey from the hive owner! |

Yes and no... I've been enlightened that until recent years storm and weather prediction was simply antiquated.
If you are watching the weather channel for predictions....you are merley watching weather entertainment ...
There are much better and modern forms of weather predicting available..albeit not free.
The main goal of any meteorologist is to save lives in the event of a serious storm or on coming catastrophe. They take it very seriously.

Those dummies were encouraged by the state to do so at first, then if your water consumption didn't decrease your water bills went up. I had a beautiful yard where I lived on the central coast, sold it and moved to a different state. You should see the rock garden a my old place now. |

We don't see that many butterfly's in the Willamette Valley, but we must have plenty of bees/water/good weather this year as our pear & apple trees are breaking down overloaded with fruit like never before in our 16 years here!
I'm shoveling them up and feeding them to our boarded horses as usual. _________________ https://imgur.com/user/FisherSquareback/posts
