i removed the old santana crankshaft pulley (engine in car - tins in place) and i started to put the new pulley on and its a tight fit!

so tight that i can only get it on approx. 1/4" (pushing, wiggling and shoving) before it sticks...no room for hammer..is there a trick?

heat?

This is one of the many jobs that are easier with the engine out of the car.

I put my Berg pulley (also a nice tight fit) on with a 4x4 block of wood and a 3# mallet.

You can try 400 grit wet sanding and smear some grease in the ID of the pulley before dropping the engine. Soon as you can get the nut in, tighten, then loosen, then tighten, then loosen....etc.

Many years ago I had a major screaming match with my bride, over some piston's and rods in the dishwasher and some other "non food" stuff in the oven...

To keep the peace, (piece?) I ended up with a prefectly good washer and dryer, a dishwasher and a gas stove in MY shop. Been peaceful ever since...

Been there done that and have the State Go Kart Race t-shirt. I put into the oven, go kart tires mounted to rims to get stagger like I needed, that went over real well with the wife. She blew a head gasket Shocked , I finished the race Laughing

When I swapped my stock pulley for a degreed I threw it in the oven for a few minutes at like 200*F, had some white grease on the counter. Pulled it out of the oven, greased it, and ran out to the car with pulley in hand. Went right on!
