Vacuum advance for CA 73-4 VW Thing Price: $85

This is a good used vacuum can for a '73-74 Calif. VW Thing. If you have one of these, you probably know how prone these are to failure and how hard it is to find a good one. It's the retard side that fails, and once that fails, you can't time the engine correctly.
This is a genuine German Bosch 0 237 121 951 (07 114).
Note the 951 (last 3 digits of the long Bosch part number) stamped on the actuating arm in the second photo.
This can was removed from a Type 3 distributor where it had been incorrectly installed. The mounting holes had been modified to fit that distributor, but the original holes are still there and are usable. If you have a '73 or '74 Thing, this vacuum advance can will fit and work perfectly.
Yes, it's dirty, with baked-on oil, but I hesitate to clean it further, because, in my experience, getting any kind of solvent on these tends to damage the retard diaphram about half the time. I have wiped off all the wet oil, so you can handle it without getting your hands dirty. Feel free to clean it yourself, at your own risk.
The $85 price includes shipping within the continental US. That's about half the price that these sold for when they were still available from Bosch.
