Final figment of the cargo door panel, then started attaching wooden window edges.
Pulled out a few other pieces to rework. The headbanger shelf and rear corner piece. Both have a decent amount of water damage. Going for a save on both of these, I’m getting better at the process.
I’m getting more experience with fixing some of the damage. I’ve taken to watering down the wood glue that helps it wick it into the depths of the delamination. Then I go to regular glue on the edges and where I can reach and clamp it up. I’m preparing myself for the biggest challenge, the long wall with three windows and the wardrobe.

Might consider making doors to those rear upper vents for more interior air flow in hot weather. _________________ In Stereo, Where Available! |

Thanks Eric&Barb, they’re gonna definitely get a bug screen behind them.
I made some progress on the rear cargo door panel. This was the most wasted piece of the whole kit. As you can see it was falling apart to the point of not knowing what went where and what was there is warped pretty bad. I did my best to remove what I could intact to have as a model to measure from and kept it this whole time (5 years) on a plywood gurney. I’ll keep what I can for plywood patches until I’m through reworking the whole kit.
I managed the best I could to make a reproduction piece out of Baltic Burch. With an original piece repaired and sanded, when I hit it with a light color stain it goes to this reddish color. I believe it goes that shade from the soaked in lacquer that has aged yellow. It’s fine, it’s a cool color and works with the bus, I just don’t believe it was this shade when new. Playing around with several shades of stain I can get pretty close. A touch of distress for that little bit of drama.
It was pretty satisfying mounting it with the table and burner. Those pieces needed attention at some point and set back until now. Still have the window to refresh. Why am I into this primitive stuff? _________________ 1977 Sage Green Westy

Little work on left rear corner wooden panel.
I really wanted to save this piece. It was pretty flimsy at first, but started tightening up as I glued it over several small steps. Light sanding and stained up nicely.
Cleaned up the area, added sound dampening and screen to the vents. I went ahead and installed it. It’s safest there and does not interact with any other pieces or steps.
Small steps often are adding up. _________________ 1977 Sage Green Westy

Man, you're banging this out! Awesome work with the restoring the panels. Can't wait to see it in person. Congrats on your progress! |
Thanks MonT3! Just doing them one at time, I’ll get through them eventually! I had to put on the brakes while we focused on Sturgis Bike rally, but now I’m back at it. I pulled a few pieces of the rear bench yesterday and got going again.
