|
Question about this small rubber boot in the passenger lower front fender area behind the splash guard where the wire harness comes out of the tube in the heater channel and runs up the fender behind the splash guard and into the front trunk area. Didn't see this rubber noted in the Ghia diagrams and have not seen it in any parts list for my car. Any idea where to find it and if there is a part number for it that I can't find? It's for a 63 Ghia vert and I'm running a new wire harness for it. Found all the other grommets, but can't seem to find this small rubber boot. Appreciate any help you can provide. _________________ 1963 ghia convertible project |

Good idea. I was also considering a ball joint or tie rod end boot. _________________ 1971 1302LS Convertible (RHD) owned since '74

Both tie rod and balljoint boots are larger by a lot.
A late style shift boot still seems to have the closest look.
I did just try on a 1966 vw bus shift rod boot and it fits nice.
I also tried on a boot from the vw aircooled master cylinder and it fit snug as well.

My concern with any choice s it lasting the lifespan of the restoration. I'm not yet ready to install the harness so I still have some time. _________________ 1960 double cab

What about heat shrink? There are ones available with adhesive too. _________________ 1971 1302LS Convertible (RHD) owned since '74

Does anyone have a picture of one in good condition, preferably from a couple of angles? I'd like to send them along to someone who has production capabilities.
Thanks

I have temporarily lost my original one. I think they were mouse grey in color
I did find something that looks very very similar when looking at my Porsche 911 from underneath. I have not ordered it yet, waiting to place an order for 356 parts. If anyone beats me to it, please let me know what you discover

That Porsche boot looks really close. I'm curious about the size too. Maybe I will order one to see. I have a good original one (I don't know how pliable it is though) in one of my parts boxes. I will try to find it in the next week or two. They were just black rubber. |

Maybe if asked nicely they will take measurements. _________________ 1960 double cab

Thanks for the responses. Yes, please, if you have one in good condition, it'd be great if measurements could be provided.
All I was going to do was to reach out to International Mercantile, which makes rubber parts for the 356 and 911. They mention they can provide manufacturing capabilities for projects. Cost of course is the next question, but, it'd be good to see first if it could be done.
Mike
PS. The rear decklid seal is the other rubber piece I was considering inquiring about. |
