qbini, did you have any fitment problems with the Rheins on the G60s? I've heard some light grinding may be required. Did you have to do this?

My rheins did rub on the G60s a bit. I choose to use a T3 Tech 5mm spacer to offset rather then grind - i really didn't like the idea of grinding brake components. The hub-centric spacers are fantastic... they just slip on and the rub went away. The rheins have an offset of ET30, so the 5mm spacer brings them to an offset of 25 - still within original tolerances to not mess up your steering geometry. I did need to buy longer lug bolts to compensate for the additional thickness. |

It looks like it comes with a different hub set up, is this the case? I am asking because I am trying to find wheels that will fit the VC kit, an I found a set of syncro wheels, wondering if once I have the kit installed if I only have to clearance my wheel to syncro specs or if I still have to bore out the fronts for 2wd?
Thanks |

| I went with a set of 16in mercedes wheels. Check out the ultimate wheel post. Then www.t3technique.com will get you all the lugs and studs to set it up. Plus powerflex bushings. |

| Getting the right size wheels, I am wondering if offset changes, an if my hub center / dust cap changes so I dont have to clearance the centerbore on my 17" audi rims as much |

The Van Cafe/Eurospec kit makes the wheel mounting surface sit 1.5mm further inboard compared to the stock brakes.
To the best of my knowledge, the Small Car kit makes the wheels sit 7.2mm further outboard compared to the stock brakes.
In other words, with the VC/Eurospec kit, you don't have much to be concerned with unless you are already running really tight clearances. The Small Car kit would be the same as running a 7.2mm spacer on top of the stock brakes, so that would have to be taken into account when figuring wheel offsets. _________________ "Sometimes you have to build a box to think outside of." - Bruce (not Springsteen)

Hey Chris, are talking about the SA brakes from Van Cafe or the Audi brakes? _________________ '84 Vanagon GL 1.9 WBX

The Audi-based, Eurospec sourced kit, not the OE VW SA kit. I have never seen one of the OE VW SA kits in person, so I don't know if there any offset change or not. _________________ "Sometimes you have to build a box to think outside of." - Bruce (not Springsteen)

I have VC front brakes, from over 4 years ago.
I've used Mefro 16x6 ET 30, Rhein 15x6.5 ET 30, and CLK 16x7 ET 37, they all fit without any front big brake interference on my syncro, with no spacer. _________________ My Soapboxes: Inflation; Handling; Gearing; Decoupling; Swepco |

I have the Van Cafe 15" steel wheels. Can I use the Small Car big brake kit or not?
Thanks! |
I asked SmallCar, and they said no. I went with the VC kit, and also have 15" Mefro wheels. Anyone out there running this combo? Pictures? Thanks! _________________ 1987 Syncro Westy "June" |

Thanks! I was going to get the VC brakes when I was down there but I ran out of $$, so I was hoping the SC kit would work.
Guess it will have to wait awhile. _________________ 89 Syncro GL Westfalia 2.1 WBX/WBXaustSS

Having a real hard time getting the VC kit to work with my 15x6 Mefros. Going back to stock for now so I can get back on the road. Can anyone recommend a kit that works well with these wheels with no modifications? Thanks! _________________ 1987 Syncro Westy "June" |

| We have a syncro with 17" tires and want bigger brakes. Anything we need to consider when comparing? |

Are you working with the later Audi-based kit or the South African brakes? According to Van cafe, the Audi brakes fit the Mefro wheels fine.
I know they fit inside 15" Mercedes wheels, my 15" spare clears just fine. _________________ '84 Vanagon GL 1.9 WBX

Hi everyone who has VC Big Brakes.
What did you do about the hose support where the flex line meets the hard line at the caliper? _________________ Currently:

I fabricate a mount.
GW uses zip ties. |

Yep, kinda what I figured. Zip ties just don't seem good enough.
I've got the knowhow, but not the equipment, to fab up something nice looking. Guess I'll have to do what I can with a bench vise, pliers, and a drill.
Insyncro- any photos of your mounts for inspiration? _________________ Currently:
