Good thinking with the extra door seal. I see a lot of doors with similar gaps and can imagine the noise level.

Bummer about the sump cover damage.

Yeah, just run a straight edge across the plate to make sure it's still straight. A sump stud shouldn't be too hard to find. That's just one of the hazards of driving a rear engine car. Wink Just be glad you didn't have a deep sump on it. My dad had one on his car and hit a raised man hole cover (they were repaving the street), and he liked to have torn the sump off (saw it too late).

Actually, it's the same 1-1/2 quart Berg sump I've been running for years on this engine with an aluminum sump plate. I was barely moving, just inching back into the space.

The sump plate is dented where the nut got pushed over and now have a bump on the other side of the plate. It's a nothing-special thing I should be able to get another of on Monday. It's one of those parts that empi should be good enough for.

Even a stock steel plate would work. Oddly, I don't seem to have one of those. Rolling Eyes

Well, I have a leak. Main seal from the looks of it. I've decided to change out the heads while the engine is out. My current 044s have been back and forth across the country several times in two different cars before this one. Lots of hot desert miles.

So I've ordered up a set of Panchitos from CB. Those that I've seen were beautifully cast with zero flash between the fins.

It will be interesting to see what my current heads look like when I get them out.

Well at least the seal lasted a couple of years this time. Wink

I’ve heard nothing but good things about Panchitos heads, they should make for a nice addition.

The engine is out. Will replace both the transmission input shaft seal and the main seal on the engine. It's possible I oiled-down the clutch so that is also on the list. Also my Panchitos are supposed to come in tomorrow so I will be stripping it to a long block to get the old heads off.

Nice.

I'll be doing the same sort of maintenance soon-ish.

Progressing with the engine strip-down. Here is the FI fuel loop and injector holder.

Tomorrow I'll have the old heads off and give Randy a call to get some port-matching done with the new Panchito heads.

Here is one of my old heads. These things have been on several Berg Cruises and in three different cars. Lots of miles, many of them crossing the desert in the heat. Looks like I've been running them a little fat. Also I see cracks between the valves.
