It's a pass on the ID BUZZ for me.

If I want to go renewable, I'll just buy made in China! Get it?

I watched this

which was pretty awkward how hard to they have to push the vehicle.

as far as how it looks, not sure how much love it will inspire .

is the price north of 40k ?

id wager ~50k for the rwd as a random guess, taking the mid trim rwd ID4 and adding a bit. but who knows what the next couple years of waiting bring.
but, if vw is serious about their sales mix goals for 2030 its also possible they will have burned through their BEV tax credits by the time this launches stateside, so thatll be something to watch also.

I really want to like this but I'm struggling.

Old buses were popular because they were cheap, unique and versitile. So much so that they became cultural icons.

Old buses sold well into the 80s until cheaper alternatives came to the market. Once that happened people stopped buying VW vans and soon after VW stopped selling them in the US.

The new buzz is way too expensive. I can't expect they will sell well.

If VW wants to get sentimental about the bus they need to go back to their roots and understand why the original bus and bug models were successful, it's not the model names or astethics. It was their value and simplicity.

In my opinion it looks great, it’s functional, should be fun to own and easy to live with. I predict it will sell like hot cakes. VW probably won’t be able to build them fast enough to keep up with the demand.

I don’t think this is practical in todays marketplace. To build a cheap, no-frills, simple vehicle in this day and age, VW would be competing with the Dodge Neon, Ford Fiesta, and Chevy Caveliers of the world. And then people would be complaining about what a piece of crap VW built.
Aside from the white contractor vans that every plumber and electrician seem to own, the market just doesn’t seem to be screaming for vinyl seats, manual steering, hand crank windows, AM radios, and underpowered engines.
And those were all the things that made the original Busses cheap and simple.

But likely, vintage Bus people are not the target market for these new cars. The same way not a lot of vintage VW guys seem to own a New Beetle. Same could be said for the the new versions of Dodge Darts, Chargers, Monte Carlos, Broncos, etc.
Just sharing a name and similar styling will attract all sorts of buyers who never have or would own the original classic.

I bet the new Bus sells well.

If Porsche can still make a rear engine car after nearly 70 years, why can't VW just make a proper rear engine VW bus again. It will likely be much cheaper than buying an old 23 window at this point.

Or me!

I would love to be able to buy a brand new basic car or truck of any kind that does not create in it's wake a trail of broken plastic bits, failed options, frustrated to tears technicians and repair bills that require a re-mortgage on the house! Bring them on, I am not the only one good and ready!

It just doesn't do anything for me. The New Beetle was more exciting and that didn't sell well. I don't expect this will do any better.

And what a goofy name. Buzz? More like Zzzzzzzz!

It must poll well with some target market, apparently none of us fit that demographic. Confused

There are some people who won’t buy a new vehicle with all the useless add-ons they don’t need purely out of principle. But I’ll bet the vast majority of those in the market for a new car will just suck it up and pay the extra 5, 10, or 20 thousand to get whatever the new level of ‘base model’ comes with. So it makes the the manufacturer more up front, and the dealer will win in the long run with more trips to the service department. It’s hard to argue it doesn’t make sense from a business standpoint on their end.

Well, maybe the Chinese will introduce some "basic" car that American consumers want that is made well to boot. I'm not holding my breath, though! Plastic junk breaks and makes companies money, you know!

Did anyone mention that we only get the fat elongated one in the USA? The short one is at least moderately palatable.

It made it to Amelia Island too.
I'm not a fan but I think it's going to do well for VW.
