Running those defiantly moves your bus out of the "cute" zone into the "COOL" zone. Cool

Nice! You're going to have to invest in a more powerful stereo to offset the tire/road noise with those...

the tires do have a humm, but its the sound of my people! hahaha. its nothing compared to the yuge nitto mud grapplers on my big truck. so far my little solar blue tooth speaker sitting on the dash has more then enough volume to deal with the road noise. we will see after these tires get some miles on them. the buckshot mudders i took off had about 50% tread left, and were starting to get loud.

Y'all might be looking at the offroad capability but I am struck by the ease with which you could take the battery -- big batteries -- out that hole on the side of the motorbox. Why has no one ever considered cutting a hole there and... I don't know, maybe like, making a battery access door out of fiberglass? A concept like that would be legendary! This is problem in need of a solution. It would have a certain elegance and simplicity!

How often do you guys need access to your batteries?

I was debating on putting the batteries there. Or possible the diesel for for the heater. My choices are to weld a sheet of metal over it and close it off.
Cut it to the size of a lockbox door so there is a key entry. Just weld flush

Or put an air duct there

Was thinking of putting a duplicate of the top duct down below. For my air intake.

Or reversing it for airflow out of the engine bay. I have my cherokee radiator where my gas tank used to go. [/quote]

Were those holes cut to provide airflow for radiators? I tried that years ago but quickly gave up on it and moved the radiator below the bus, and did a quickie weld job to put the metal back. (One day I'll fix that.) The hole is visible in some old pics of mine, so I occasionally get accused of trying to make a battery door. I'll own that bit of regret.

The battery door comments refer to this old, ill-fated thread:

I spent an hour yesterday checking my turning radius and measuring to see if I can install larger tires on the front. I think I can go up to 215/70/16 tires if I use 5x112 rims with an ET37 offset but that's about it without cutting and moving the jack points back. I may look to see if I can find rims with an ET in the mid 40s range as that would allow clearance for the 215/75/16 tires I'm looking to buy.

Some Eurovans have a steel wheel which is 15” with et 44.

Nice. Looks great!

Found an off-road playground to mess around in this past Saturday about an hour from home out along a FSR. There were a bunch of Jeeps, Pick-ups, and ATVs having fun. I'll have to come back.

Hello everyone,

I once saw an attachment solution somewhere to raise the wheel when it gets stuck, for example in a sandy desert. But without having to lift the entire car including the suspension travel. So that you can slide a sand plates traction aid / recovery board / rocks or sand underneath the wheel.

Similar to the straps with claws that fit into wheel holes and attach to big Hi-Lift jacks - but for bay window rims and simpler jacks (bottle jacks or standard on-board jack?) - I think it was made entirely of steel.

Any idea where to find it - or photo?
Could have been in old literature, instead of the Internet.

Yes, it's better not to get stuck - but sh** happens Laughing
I also have an air compressor on board to vary tire pressure. Also tools, shovel, jack, recovery ropes, recovery boards, ...

I got the Fresh Kustoms drop plates installed, well part way. I had to clearance the bump stop towers for the bolts to clear and I had to order some new springplate bushings because all of mine are toast. Looks like in 75 I guess they decided to do away with the big support between the torsion and bump stop. I’ll pull it apart again and clean everything up with some undercoating.
