I saw that post of Spacebook. Something doesn't compute. My SO42 is fabrik number 0014 and was made on Jan 18/65. This one that was just found was made Jan 25/65 and is fabrik 002?? |

It has the original early curtains, early water tank, and is a bench seat model.
It looks like it has metal push buttons on the head banger and the small closet in the rear corner.
I would love to see the mcode plate. _________________

In any event, if it is indeed a 25 Jan '65 bus, it's the oldest known pop top. |
I have a suspicion that it has the same destination code as yours. _________________

Another theory is that it took longer to assemble pop top kits than tin top kits, and were put together on different assembly lines. The different fabrik tag stamping font and this being the oldest known pop top support that theory and this could legitimately be 002.
The Facebook member shared the m code plate with me and it's indeed built on 25 Jan 1965 and a B42 pop top kit.
I'm curious now if all pop top so42 have the same stamp style with the serif on the 5. The early tin tops have the same non serif stamping. That would confirm the different assembly line idea. _________________ 1987 Syncro Westfalia powered by Subaru

It's going to be a massive rebuild for sure but I think this bus deserves it. It's the oldest pop top vw in existence, and possibly the first one ever made. I'd love to have that opportunity! _________________ 1987 Syncro Westfalia powered by Subaru

Secures the rear seat/bed on the drivers side to the raised wheel well. Should be attached to the bus.
