ANU 905 L – 1973 VW “1600” TYPE 2 WESTFALIA CONTINENTAL - MODIFICATIONS, UPGRADES & ACCESSORIES

Introduction

Whilst on our 1974 summer package-tour, tent-camping holiday in Greece with Penn World Travel, we encountered an orange & white, right-hand drive, 1973 VW 1600 Type 2 Westfalia Continental motor-caravan (manufactured circa late-August or early-September 1972), on a campsite adjacent to the Corinth Canal.

At that time, it was owned by a young Australian hospital doctor, then working in Manchester, England, who was scheduled to return with his family to Australia, sometime in the New Year; after completing the almost obligatory Australian rite of passage, which was to visit the Home Country (i.e. Great Britain – centre of the British Empire & Commonwealth, encompassing approximately one third or the World’s population) and tour Europe.

To better suit it to our needs, the vehicle has undergone a series of sporadic modifications, upgrades and accessorisation. This commenced in mid-1975 and is still an on-going process, more than 40 years later.

Substitute WO-Series, 1911 cm³ VW Type 4 Style, Modified Hybrid Engine [work in progress]

• 1971 VW 1700 Type 4 (i.e. VW 411 LE) WO-Series engine crankcase, windage tray, crankshaft, connecting rods, oil pump, camshaft & cam followers.
• 96 mm ‘bore’ NPR cast-iron cylinder barrels & full-skirted, flat-crown pistons.
• 1974/75 VW 1800 Type 2 AP-Series engine cylinder head, with 41 mm inlet & 34 mm exhaust valves.
• 1975 VW 1800 Type 2 engine cylinder head (has 10 x 1•0 threaded hole for fuel-injection CHT sensor), with 39•3 mm inlet & 33 mm exhaust valves. Substituted 41 mm inlet & 34 mm exhaust valves.
• DIY radiused sharp corners and removed all casting flash from the crankcase, cylinder heads (especially between the cooling fins), cooling fan & fan shroud, using sharp chisels, rotary files and rat-tail files, to improve handling safety and engine-cooling efficiency.
• DIY double-grooved the camshaft drive gear, using a lathe parting tool, as described in Bill Fisher’s book, “How to Hot Rod Volkswagen Engines”.
• Obtained double-thrust camshaft bearing, by purchase of two bearing sets and notching second thrust bearing.
• DIY “port-matched” the crankcase oil galleries to the oil-pump housing and oil-filter mounting adapter, using rat-tail round & half-round files.
• DIY modified the VW Type 4 style oil pump inlet & outlet channels, using various rotary files and rat-tail files, following general guidelines for the VW Type 1 style oil pump, in Bill Fisher’s book, “How to Hot Rod Volkswagen Engines”.
• DIY equalised VW 1700 Type 4 connecting rods’ total weight to within ± 0•1 grammes, by removal of “small-end balancing-pad” and other excess material, using an angle grinder and various rat-tail files. Final end-to-end balancing was undertaken by Burton Engineering.
• Connecting rods were shot peened to stress-relieve the surface, after final balancing.
• Crankshaft, flywheel, clutch and cooling fan were dynamically balanced by Burton Engineering.
• Piston & gudgeon-pin combinations have been DIY balanced to within ± 0•01 grammes, using various rotary files and abrasives.
• Cylinder heads were “refurbished” (cracks welded and dressed | new valve-guides, valves, valve-springs & keepers) by Tony Royston at Microgiant, in Rawreth, Essex. I later checked these myself using a dye-penetrant test.
• For improved air flow, the cylinder-head combustion-chambers were DIY cut back using curved-profile rotary files, to the edges of the 96 mm bores, to un-shroud the inlet & exhaust valves.
• DIY equalised cylinder-head, combustion-chamber volumes at 60•0 ± 0•1 cm³, using various rotary files and rat-tail files.
• For improved air flow, the 41 mm inlet valves’ 30º seating angle, was DIY back-cut at 21º using a valve grinder, and DIY blended into the valve stem, using a lathe-chuck and hand-held grindstone, plus progressively finer grades of emery cloth. The valve-head margins adjacent to the combustion chambers, were also radiused for improved air flow, using a lathe-chuck and hand-held grindstone, plus progressively finer grades of emery cloth.
• For improved air flow, the 34 mm exhaust valves’ 45º seating angle, was DIY back-cut at 30º using a valve grinder, and DIY blended into the valve stem, using a lathe-chuck and hand-held grindstone, plus progressively finer grades of emery cloth. The valve-head margins adjacent to the combustion chambers, were also radiused for improved air flow, using a lathe-chuck and hand-held grindstone, plus progressively finer grades of emery cloth.
• Optimised rocker-gear geometry, with equalised installed-valve-spring-height spacers, valve-rocker-stand spacers, Buckpack M8 x 1•0 mm swivel-foot adjusters, Gene Berg longer M8 rocker studs, custom-length chrome-molybdenum steel push rods and bolt-on, “high-lift”, finned aluminium-alloy rocker covers.
• Can obtain deck-height (i.e. compression or squish clearance) of 1•20 ± 0•05 mm, by omitting cylinder-head-to-cylinder-barrel, metal-ring gaskets and crankcase-to-cylinder-barrel gaskets; using just a thin smear of compressible sealant between the crankcase and cylinder barrels.
• A compression ratio of 8•0 : 1, will be obtained with the flat-crown pistons, 1•20 ± 0•05 mm deck-height and 60•0 ± 0•1 cm³ combustion-chamber volume.
• Incorporated a custom-made, engine-starting, manual-crank-handle dog (into which the manual-crank-handle is inserted), which fastens to the VW Type 4 cooling fan, using the fan’s existing three M8 bolts.

Note that one VW 1800 Type 2 cylinder head with 41 mm inlet & 34 mm exhaust valves and the other with 39•3 mm inlet & 33 mm exhaust valves, both originated from a second-hand, VW factory-reconditioned, AP-Series, VW 1800 Type 2 engine. This engine had valve-rocker adjustment screws of M8 x 1•0 mm thread size. Another AP-Series, VW 1800 Type 2 engine had valve-rocker adjustment screws of M10 x 1•0 mm thread size.

· Nearside door mirror was adapted, to graft on a Wingard-Zanetti, side-by-side, twin-lens mirror (two mirror lenses, set at a predetermined fixed angle to one another, in a single housing).

· Retro-fitted a Light-Sight 75 mm diameter, flexible PVC Frésnel lens to the interior surface of the front windscreen, to view close-proximity traffic lights.

· Substituted a late-1969 VW Type 2, long-stemmed, interior rear-view mirror (VW part No. 211 857 501 B).

· Retro-fit a 190 mm x 140 mm, rectangular, flexible PVC Frésnel lens to the interior surface of the passenger-side, cab-door, quarter-light window.

· Retro-fit a downward facing mirror to rear hatch, so that the rear bumper and area in close-proximity, can be seen when reversing [in the future].

· Retro-fit an electrically-heated rear-window glass, plus associated electrical switch, relay & wiring [work in progress]. If impractical, a “reversing camera” incorporated into the main rear hatch, might be an alternative.

· Substitute a two-zone, electrically-heated (2 x 19A), laminated front windscreen (for improved window demisting & defrosting), plus associated electrical switch, relays & wiring [in the future].

Dashboard & Steering-Column Switches

· 1976 - Retro-fitted a “heated-rear-window”, dashboard switch (ex VW Type 4 = VW 411/412), with integral green-lensed tell-tale warning light, to serve the VW 1600 Type 2 engine’s Minnow Fish carburettor de-icer. Becomes redundant, when a substitute VW Type 4 style engine is installed.

· 1976 - Substituted matching VW Type 3 & 4 pattern switch-knobs (stepped, truncated cone-shaped), in place of the VW Type 2 pattern switch-knobs (dimpled, truncated cone-shaped), on the main-light switch (i.e. for headlamps & sidelights) and interior-light switch.

· 1992 – Retro-fitted a combination windscreen-wiper & washer, dashboard switch (ex VW Type 4 = VW 411/412), to serve the retro-fitted, cross-over-arm, pantograph rear-window wiper & washer system.

· Retro-fit a VW Type 2, two-speed ventilation booster-fan, dashboard switch, with substituted VW Type 3 & 4 pattern switch-knob (stepped, truncated cone-shaped) and customised emblem insert, in place of the VW Type 2 pattern switch-knob (dimpled, truncated cone-shaped) [work in progress].

· Retro-fit a “heated-rear-window”, dashboard switch (ex VW Type 4 = VW 411/412), with integral customised blue-lensed tell-tale warning light, to serve a matched pair of auxiliary driving lights [work in progress].

· Retro-fit a “heated-rear-window”, dashboard switch (ex VW Type 4 = VW 411/412), with integral customised yellow-lensed tell-tale warning light, to serve a matched pair of auxiliary 55W quartz-halogen reversing lights [work in progress].

· Retro-fit a “heated-rear-window”, dashboard switch (ex VW Type 4 = VW 411/412), with integral customised white-lensed tell-tale warning light, to serve a matched pair of elevating-roof-mounted 55W quartz-halogen work lights [work in progress].

· Re-allocate the existing “heated-rear-window”, dashboard switch (ex VW Type 4 = VW 411/412), with integral green-lensed tell-tale warning light, to serve an electrically-heated rear window [work in progress].

· Retro-fit six supplementary, 20 mm square-section, push-button, dashboard-mounted switches (ex Citroën Visa), mounted in a custom-made aluminium switch-panel, substituted in place of the central ash tray [work in progress]. These have provisionally been selected to serve: (1) front fog lights; (2) rear fog lights; (3) Raintracker™ RT-50 rain-sensing windscreen-wiper controller or other wiper/washer function; (4) audible-warning-signal changeover from the original factory-fitted disc-horn to supplementary air-horns; (5) heater-booster fan; and (6) two-zone, electrically-heated, laminated front windscreen (when and if substituted for the original non-laminated, zone-toughened front windscreen) [work in progress].

· Retro-fit a generic, square-section, push-button momentary switch to the steering-column-mounted, headlamp-dip-switch housing, serving the custom-made, manual brake-light flasher system (i.e. brake-lights can be illuminated without depressing the brake pedal) [work in progress].

· Retro-fit a generic, square-section, push-button momentary switch, to the left side of the steering-column housing, serving the custom-made, remotely-operated battery jump-starting system [work in progress].

· Retro-fit a generic, square-section, push-button latching switch, to the right side of the steering-column housing, to serve the Raintracker™ RT-50 rain-sensing windscreen-wiper controller [work in progress].

1972~79 VW Type 2s were seldom found in British car-breakers’ yards, and the few I found (I encountered fewer than 10 over a period of 30 years), were not equipped with a heated rear window & associated dashboard switch. VW Type 3 & 4 cars were more commonly found! North American specification, air-cooled VWs, appear to have been equipped with a larger variety of matching dashboard switches, of various types.

Other Electrical Systems

· 1981 - Retro-fitted a bulkhead-type BNC socket (i.e. co-axial cable-connector) into the nearside wall of the engine compartment, to provide a 12 V accessory supply to the motorcaravan annexe tent. This was principally to power the accessory 8W fluorescent light, which clipped onto the tent frame.

· 1982 - Replaced the VW-pattern 45 Ah starter-battery, with a generic 60 Ah starter-battery, relocated on the left-hand side of the engine compartment. Connection to the engine’s starter motor and dynamo’s voltage regulator, was achieved using longer electrical cables (slightly longer than needed) of appropriate gauge and wiring-colours (ex VW Type 4 = VW 411/412).

· 1989 - Supplemented the electrical wiring loom, to incorporate a 1972~79 VW 17/18/2000 Type 2 heater-booster fan, into the 1973 VW 1600 Type 2 heating & demisting system.

· Revise, rebuild and supplement the existing modular wiring loom with additional cable, plus multi-way standard & miniature connector blocks [work in progress].

· Retro-fit replacement and supplementary fuse & relay boxes [ex Vauxhall Cavalier Mk.2 and Lancia Delta), plus single-position & six-position relay mounting cum connector blocks (ex Vauxhall Cavalier Mk.2 & Astra Mk.1 and Austin-Rover Maestro, Montego & Metro) socket [work in progress].

· Retro-fit two dashboard-mounted cigar-lighter sockets (ex Nissan Sunny) for electrical accessories, such as hand-held spot light and map-reading light socket [work in progress].

· Retro-fit heavy-duty direction-indicator cum hazard-warning flasher unit, plus 12N & 12S 7-pin towing sockets and ISO 13-pin towing socket [work in progress].

· Fabricate & retro-fit a custom-made, remotely-operated battery jump-starting system, connecting an auxiliary starter-battery to the starter-motor, by means of an ultra-heavy-duty relay (i.e. starter solenoid for an inertia-type starter motor) and a push-button momentary switch near the steering-column [work in progress].

Braking System

· 1988/89 - Retro-fitted two remote-acting, ATE – Alfred Teves, vacuum brake-servo units (of type factory-fitted to RHD, mid-1970s vintage BMWs), mounted to the longitudinal chassis beams, in a custom-made, tubular-steel cradle, rearward of the front jacking points, straddling the central warm-air duct.

· 1988/89 - Replaced the original coated steel brake pipes, with custom-made Kunifer-10 (corrosion resistant, 90% copper & 10% nickel, cupro-nickel alloy) brake pipes, which were rerouted as necessary to accommodate the brake-servo units.

· 1988/89 - Replaced the existing polyglycol DOT3 hydraulic brake fluid, with Automec silicone DOT5 hydraulic brake fluid.

· 1988/89 - Substituted three-terminal brake-light switches and retro-fitted a dashboard-mounted brake-circuit-failure warning light, together with the associated electrical wiring circuit.

Suspension, Wheels & Tyres

· 1977/78 - Substituted five 185 SR14 “Reinforced”, Michelin XZX radial-ply tyres, in place of the original factory-specification 7.00-14 cross-ply tyres.

· Early-1980s - Acquired a second-hand 1971~79 VW Type 2, standard 14 x 5½ inch, 39 mm offset steel wheel and new 185 R14 “Reinforced” Michelin XZX radial-ply tyre; a second spare wheel being desirable for travelling in Eastern Europe, behind the “Iron Curtain” and further afield. These 1977/78 & early-1980s radial-ply tyres, will require replacement when the vehicle is re-commissioned, at which time I shall take the opportunity to upgrade the specification to 16 inch wheels and low-profile, commercial-van (aka light-truck in North American parlance) tyres.

· Front – Monroe “Radialmatic” (V2006) heavy-duty dampers [work in progress].

· Rear – Monroe “Load Leveller” (LL665) heavy-duty dampers with concentric variable-rate coil springs [work in progress].

· Front – Obtain and retro-fit a heavy-duty front anti-roll bar (e.g. Whiteline, Sway-a-Way, EMPI or ADDCO) [in the future].

· Rear – Retro-fit a heavy-duty rear anti-roll bar (ex Ford Granada Mk.2, 25•2 mm diameter front anti-roll bar) with DIY custom-made mountings [work in progress].

· Substitute six (i.e. four + two spares) 16 x 7 inch, 37 mm offset, Mercedes C-Class aluminium-alloy wheels, with either 205/65 R16C or 215/65 R16C commercial-van tyres [in the future]. This will also require replacement of the rear brake-drums’ four M7 x 1•0 mm, hex-head, retaining bolts; ideally with M7 x 1•0 mm, countersunk socket screws or alternatively M6 x 1•0 mm, countersunk socket screws in conjunction with M6 x 1•0 mm threaded bushes (e.g. HeliCoil or TimeSert).

Window Wipers & Washers

· Front – 1985 - Substituted a pair of Swedish-made, SVD wash-wiper blades having perforated, hollow blade rubbers, with flexible- rubber, small-bore, water-supply hoses.

· Rear – 1990 - Retro-fitted a modified SWF cross-over-arm, pantograph rear-window wiper (ex early-1980s vintage Vauxhall Astra Mk.1 estate car).

· Rear – Retro-fitted a VW 411 dashboard-mounted front windscreen wiper & washer switch, for use with the rear-window wiper & washer system.

· Rear – Retro-fitted to the LHS of the front cab, a VW 412 Variant, front windscreen washer reservoir, for use with the rear-window washer system.

· Rear – Retro-fit a wiper-arm-mounted, SWF/VDO clip-on window-washer, with four adjustable ball nozzles, of the same type as used on Mercedes Vito vans and MAN trucks [work in progress].

· Front – Retro-fit a Raintracker™ RT-50 rain-sensing, variable-interval, intermittent windscreen-wiper controller kit [work in progress].

Heating, Insulation, Ventilation & Air Conditioning

· 1976 - Retro-fitted a layer of carpet-underlay beneath the front-cab & front-aisle rubber mats.

· 1989 - Supplemented the carpet-underlay beneath the front-cab rubber mat, with glued-on 20 mm thick, elastomeric foam (using Dunlop Thixofix contact adhesive).

· 1989 - Retro-fitted a pair of DIY custom-made, glass-fibre-reinforced-plastic Y-junction hose adapters (spigots for 50 mm, 50 mm & 55 mm and 50 mm, 50 mm & 60 mm diameter hoses respectively) and an engine-compartment-ceiling-mounted, 1972~79 VW 17/18/2000 Type 2 electric heater-booster fan. The Y-junction adapters, were used to incorporate the booster fan, into the heating system of the 1973 VW 1600 Type 2, having a VW Type 1 style engine.

· 1993 - Substituted a 1968~72 VW Type 2, dashboard heater & ventilation control-lever assembly, with two blue-knobbed, ventilation control-levers, to provide separate control of the two ventilation control-flaps, behind the front-panel ventilation grille.

· Retro-fit a pair of two-speed, axial-flow, intra-duct, ventilation-booster fans (fit inside the front-cab, ventilation-duct, removable inspection covers) [work in progress].

· Retro-fit three white nylon spacers with riveted Earth/Ground terminal, between the dashboard heater & ventilation control-levers, to provide Earth/Ground-side switching for the heater-booster & ventilation-booster fans [work in progress].

During the early quarter of 2000, I obtained (on a sale or return basis!) a second-hand Eberspächer BA6 under-floor, auxiliary petrol-fired heater (sourced from Sweden), which may be fitted in place of the under-floor heating system duct. Unfortunately, the required location for the Eberspächer heater unit, corresponded to the position of the ATE remote servo units, which I had retro-fitted in 1988/89. Hence, I would again have to modify the braking system, if I wished to fit a BA6 unit.

This would involve either relocating the servo units, which I believe to be impractical, or obtain a brake master cylinder, pushrod and a direct acting, vacuum servo unit, plus the associated front torsion-bar suspension beam, with servo mounting bracket, from a 1972~79 VW 17/18/2000 Type 2. Not wishing to do either of these things, I shall continue to investigate the practicality of using a different Eberspächer unit or other auxiliary heater.

Bodywork

· 1977/78 - Retro-fitted a Holdsworth front-panel mounted spare-wheel carrier; substituting two stainless-steel straps with captive nuts, behind the front panel, instead of using the supplied cavity-fixing bolts.

· 1982 - Fabricated (using varnished plywood and galvanised sheet steel) a bolt-in battery-mounting tray, which was retro-fitted on the left-hand side of the engine compartment, below the spare-wheel well. This enabled easy removal and servicing of the starter-battery, without the need to disturb engine ancillaries on the right-hand side of the engine compartment.

· 1988/89 - Retro-fitted genuine VW Type 2 rear mud flaps (black textile-reinforced rubber, with white Wolfsburg emblem), using home-made aluminium-alloy brackets and stainless-steel screws, Nyloc nuts and 25 mm diameter penny-washers.

· 1988/89 - Retro-fitted home-made, full-width front mud flaps (black textile-reinforced rubber; originally part of a conveyor belt), using home-made aluminium-alloy brackets and stainless-steel screws, Nyloc nuts and 25 mm diameter penny-washers.

· 1988/89 - Fabricated (using nylon webbing and sheet aluminium alloy) and retro-fitted, a home-made, interior, rear, sliding-door, pull-close strap.

· Devise a supplementary, rear-mounted, interior sliding-door-latch handle & linkage system, so that the sliding door can be unlatched, without needing to lean forwards, past the campervan furniture, to use the original factory-fitted, interior sliding-door-latch handle [in the future].

· Retro-fit a heavy-duty Westfalia trailer-towing bracket [in the future].

Motorcaravan / Campervan Equipment

· 1975 - Fabricated and retro-fitted a supplementary, full-width cutlery drawer under the sink.

· 1975 - Replaced the broken nylon cupboard-stays with hinged metal stays.

· 1975 - Replaced a broken nylon connecting rod in the sink-unit’s manual, lever-operated water pump, with a home-made duralumin connecting rod & brass location key.

· 1976 – Fabricated and fitted, a full-width, full-height, triangular-cross-section, supplementary, loose-fitting cushion, to improve seating-comfort of the rear rock & roll, bench-seat cum double-bed. At night, this doubles-up as a full-width bolster pillow when sleeping.

· 1976 - Retro-fitted to the integral roof rack, a home-made, stretchable roof-rack cover (using surplus butyl-rubber garden-pond liner), cord-hooks & turn-buckle fasteners.

· 1980 - Substituted a Jupiter hand-operated water pump, owing to non-availability of a replacement O-ring seal, to cure a water leak from the sink-unit’s original water pump.

· 1989 – Retro-fitted a Denton Greenwood ‘Evenflow’ self-priming, in-line supplementary electric water pump to the sink unit; retaining the Jupiter hand-operated water pump as a faucet cum back-up pump.

· 1989 - Retro-fitted a fire-blanket dispenser (akin to white uPVC, square-section, rain-gutter, down-pipe with end-stops) mounted above the sliding door, close to the central-aisle, fold-down cooking stove.

· 1993 - Retro-fitted an additional matching, panel-recessed, Hella 8W fluorescent interior lamp unit, opposite the existing lamp, above the sliding door.

· 1993 - Retro-fitted to the Westfalia elevating roof, a matched pair of gas struts (aka gas springs | ex Volvo 340 rear hatch); one with an integral “courtesy-light” switch, which is now used to activate a roof-up warning light.

· Retro-fit one/two LED or fluorescent reading lights in the Westfalia elevating roof [in the future].

· Retro-fit eight additional, intermediate, 25 mm strap-bridges around the periphery of the Westfalia roof rack, to effect more secure retention of luggage [in the future].

In Van Entertainment (Audio)

· 26th August 1975 – Retro-fitted a Japanese made, Javelin 9044, single-speaker, mono radio, with Long Wave: 150~280 kHz; Medium Wave: 540~1600 kHz; Short Wave: 5•95~6•2 MHz; VHF (aka FM): 88~108 MHz. A single speaker was mounted below the central, horizontal dashboard grille.

· 26th August 1975 – Retro-fitted a PYE 2262, twin-speaker, stereo audio-cassette player. A matched pair of “parcel-shelf type” speaker pods, were attached to the front-cab ceiling, behind the driver and front-passenger seats.

· Substitute a second-hand, German made, mid-1980s vintage, DIN-E aperture-mounted, Blaupunkt Toronto SQR46, four-speaker, stereo radio cum cassette player, with Long Wave: 150~280 kHz; Medium Wave: 540~1600 kHz; Short Wave: 5•95~6•2 MHz; VHF (aka FM): 88~108 MHz [work in progress]. When new, these typically retailed for more than £300 and were one of the few radios cum cassette players, with a Short Wave facility. A Becker unit of similar specifications, from the same era, originally retailed for circa £900.

· Retro-fit a matched pair of speakers, into either the front-cab kick boards or door trim panels [work in progress].

· Retro-fit a matched pair of speakers into the head-lining panels, below the elevating-roof aperture, forward of the rock & roll bench seat cum bed [work in progress]. I shall probably use some second-hand Blaupunkt, 7 inch x 3 inch, single-cone speakers (ex 1979~84 Vauxhall Astra Mk. 1 hatchback, rear parcel shelf).

· Retro-fit a matched pair of speakers into the rear-hatch trim panel [in the future].

· Retro-fit various audio-cassette storage facilities (aka C-Box), in the form of inter-locking modular units (incorporated into custom installations for specific car models | made by BASF and Artur Fischer), DIN-E aperture-mounted units (made by Tudor – a division of Lucas Industries | ex Austin-Rover Montego) and universal bracket-mounted units (made by Artur Fischer) [in the future].

Fischer C-Boxes are still available second-hand on Ebay. Even those which are intended for specific car marques & models, can be disassembled and the drawer modules reassembled into a custom cassette-storage system for your vehicle.

Before I learned of the Blaupunkt Toronto SQR46 & SQR48 four-speaker, stereo radios cum cassette players, I had acquired a Korean made, Audioline 332B, two-speaker, stereo radio cum cassette player, with Medium Wave: 187~560 m (i.e. 540~1600 kHz) & VHF (aka FM): 88~108 MHz, for a DIN-D aperture, which I salvaged from a very scruffy 1974 VW 1800 Type 2 panel van, that my father purchased in 1991, as a VW Type 4 engine & transaxle donor, which I later broke for spares.
